IIT Madras Establishes the Arvind Raghunathan Centre for Theoretical Computer Science



On March 27, 2026, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) proudly announced the establishment of the Arvind Raghunathan Centre for Theoretical Computer Science (ARtCS), named in honor of its alumnus Arvind Raghunathan, a distinguished figure in the world of tech and investment management. This new centre aims to deepen the understanding and exploration of the mathematical foundations of computer science, encouraging innovative research driven by curiosity.

During the official announcement, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Raghunathan, accentuating the importance of the generous support that ARtCS will receive to promote groundbreaking research in computational science. The ARtCS aims to provide foundational research opportunities in various vital areas, including but not limited to cryptography, computational complexity, algorithms, graph theory, logic, databases, theoretical machine learning, quantum computing, and AI privacy. The centre will serve as a nurturing ground for students at all levels - from undergraduates to postdoctoral researchers.

Supporting the centre is an advisory board comprised of eminent figures from academia and industry, including Prof. Shafi Goldwasser from MIT, Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan from Google, and other notable scholars and professionals. Their collective expertise will guide the centre in shaping its research agenda and ensuring that it addresses both current and forthcoming challenges in the field.

Raghunathan's journey from IIT Madras to becoming a co-founder of Roc360, a financial services and investment platform tailored for residential real estate investors, is a remarkable story of a technology-driven entrepreneurial spirit. After completing his electrical engineering degree at IIT Madras, he pursued a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. Later, he founded multiple successful businesses, one of which, Roc360, integrates AI and data-driven analytics to support real estate investors comprehensively, from loan origination to asset management. Currently residing in New York with his family, Raghunathan continues to influence the technology and finance sectors, serving not only as an investor but also as the founder and CEO of House IQ, a pioneering technology firm dedicated to enhancing the homeownership experience through intelligent applications.
