In 2024, the port reported impressive statistics, moving 9.6 million cargo containers efficiently, all while maintaining its commitment to a greener future. Cordero expressed pride in the progress made toward transitioning operations to zero emissions, stating, “We've achieved environmental progress and commercial success.” His remarks were delivered in front of an enthusiastic audience of 900 industry partners, civic leaders, and community members.

Significant reductions in emissions are noteworthy achievements of this initiative: since 2005, diesel emissions have decreased by 92%, nitrogen oxides by 71%, sulfur oxides by 98%, and overall greenhouse gases by 17%. Cordero underscored that the port would not rest on its laurels, indicating that the journey toward comprehensive sustainability continues.

A Record Year

Reflecting on 2024's record-breaking performance, Cordero credited innovative technologies and the cooperation of marine terminal operators and waterfront workers for realizing these eco-friendly initiatives. The port experienced a cargo volume increase of 20.3% compared to the previous year and surpassed its own pre-pandemic records. The collaboration among stakeholders is essential for maximizing efficiency while prioritizing air and water quality improvements.
