YUGEN Gallery's Upcoming Exhibition
This autumn, YUGEN Gallery located in the vibrant area of Minato, Tokyo, will host a solo exhibition featuring the works of contemporary artist Nori Okawa, starting from October 25, 2025. After graduating from the Graphic Design Department of Tama Art University, Okawa began his artistic journey in 2019, following a career in film production. His ability to seamlessly blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern themes has enabled him to make significant contributions to various commercial projects, including a recent collaboration with the luxury brand Miu Miu for their global event "Miu Miu Club Tokyo."
Nori Okawa's artwork explores the theme of "the boundary between life and death," a subject deeply personal to him due to the loss of a close family member at a young age. His innovative approach incorporates elements of Ukiyo-e, allowing him to reinterpret the Edo period's aesthetic of pleasure-seeking, portraying not just beauty but also the fragility of existence. His work often resonates with contemporary audiences who face uncertainty in today's world, emphasizing the importance of fully experiencing the present moment.
Okawa's artworks highlight the notion of "Iki" and "Share," the concepts embraced by Edo period's hedonistic worldview, yet infused with a modern sensibility. This juxtaposition has garnered critical acclaim, as viewers are naturally drawn to the intricate narratives embedded within his pieces. His upcoming exhibition at YUGEN Gallery is anticipated to be not just a showcase of art, but an experience that invites contemplation about the transience of life.
Following the Tokyo exhibition, the works will travel to YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA from November 29 to December 11, 2025, offering attendees in different locales a chance to appreciate Okawa's vision.
Admission to both exhibitions is free, allowing everyone to engage with contemporary art without barriers.
