In an astonishing leap forward for artificial intelligence, Raft LLC has announced that its agentic AI system, StarSage, has successfully communicated and operated with various tactical systems within the U.S. Air Force. This innovative integration marks a significant milestone in military AI capabilities, demonstrating how such technology can enhance operational command and control during complex missions.

CEO Shubhi Mishra emphasized the momentous achievement, stating, “For the first time, agentic AI didn’t just integrate into the fight – it connected warfighters, systems, and decision points in real time.” This operational AI showcased its adaptability and real-time understanding while immersed in live mission environments, challenging the conventional views of military applications of AI technology.

During the recent Project Convergence Capstone 5 (PC-C5) exercise, StarSage connected seamlessly with tactical elements across two Air Force Control and Reporting Centers. One unit was stationed in Guam while the other operated from Nellis Air Force Base, successfully linking disparate systems crucial for military operations. This unprecedented connection represents the first time an agentic AI has interacted with live USAF tactical weapon systems within a distributed architecture.

In an impressive demonstration of its capabilities, StarSage received real-time requests from human operators, effectively delivering battle management insights and decision-making inputs. Feedback from human crew members confirmed that the AI’s communications were not only clear but also nearly flawless, despite the challenges presented by poor audio conditions.

Further showcasing its capabilities, StarSage became the inaugural agentic AI to interface with the Tactical Operations Center-Light communications server utilizing live radio systems. This was made possible after Raft’s engineering team identified and rectified a previously unrecognized filter issue within the system, an endeavor praised by the group commander, who noted that Raft’s solution enabled functionalities “we didn’t know were broken.”

Moreover, StarSage established a connection to the Distributed Mission Operations Center (DMOC), the Air Force's primary simulation network, where it facilitated communication with live pilots and provided tactical control—yet another historic first for this advanced AI system. Raft also implemented a custom program allowing StarSage to effectively manage LINK-16, the essential tactical data link used by the Air Force, enabling it to track live aircraft operations with impressive accuracy and leading to significant cost savings for the service by eliminating the need for external tools.

StarSage is the product of Raft's efforts within the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) framework, designed to echo the decision-making processes of human Air Battle Managers. Throughout the PC-C5 exercise, it operated within the Shadow Operations Center alongside the 805th Combat Training Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, employing machine learning to offer decision support across various operational layers.

Notably, StarSage maintained a high level of communication accuracy and clarity during its exchanges with human operators. Engineers were astonished to see that, despite various communication disruptions, such as static and feedback loops, StarSage demonstrated an exceptional ability to comprehend incoming audio.

Raft's autonomous data fusion platforms and agentic AI systems are already trusted in numerous Department of Defense initiatives and have received endorsements from over 25 national security agencies. As StarSage builds on that foundational work, it promises to deliver rapid and accurate decision-making capabilities at critical tactical levels, ultimately enhancing military strategies and operational effectiveness.
