Sunmed™ and Local Business Owners Rally Against Texas Senate Bill 3 for Economic Protection

Sunmed™ and Local Business Owners Stand Against SB 3

Sunmed™ | Your CBD Store®, in collaboration with independent business owners, is mobilizing opposition against Texas Senate Bill 3 (SB 3), a proposed legislation threatening the economic stability of small businesses across the state. This bill not only risks the livelihoods of thousands but also endangers consumer access to essential wellness products.

The Potential Fallout of SB 3

If signed into law, SB 3 could lead to the loss of over 53,000 jobs within the Texas hemp sector, along with the closure of approximately 8,000 businesses. As a critical player in the hemp economy, Sunmed™ emphasizes the devastating impact this legislation will have on families relying on these jobs. The broader implications include:

Job Losses and Economic Strain

The stringent measures imposed by SB 3 could result in severe job losses across the Texas hemp industry, directly threatening numerous families. The Legislative Budget Board (LBB) warns of a projected negative impact of approximately $19.27 million on general revenue-related funds by the end of the current biennium in August 2027.

Decreased Consumer Choices

This bill does not represent the voice of the Texas populace. Many residents of the state have actively expressed their desire for controlled and accessible hemp products. Public hearings have revealed general opposition to the bill, underscoring community support for ongoing access to a diverse range of hemp-derived goods.

Regulatory Challenges

With SB 3 limiting consumable products strictly to isolated forms of CBD and CBG, the breadth of available options for consumers would drastically shrink. The legislation effectively creates a ban on many THC-free and broad-spectrum products that customers favor, compelling businesses to overhaul their offerings to remain compliant.

Financial Burdens on Small Businesses

Lastly, the bill imposes exorbitant licensing fees—$20,000 annually for retailers and $10,000 per year plus an additional $500 for each product from manufacturers. Such fees impose an unsustainable financial burden on small businesses, jeopardizing their survival.

A Collective Call to Action

In light of these serious concerns, Sunmed™ is calling on all Texans to oppose SB 3. The community is urged to take immediate action by contacting Texas Governor Greg Abbott with requests to veto the bill. Citizens can reach out via:

Additionally, supporters are encouraged to sign petitions lined up with the Texas Hemp Business Council and the U.S. Hemp Roundtable.
