If signed into law, SB 3 could lead to the loss of over 53,000 jobs within the Texas hemp sector, along with the closure of approximately 8,000 businesses. Job Losses and Economic Strain

The stringent measures imposed by SB 3 could result in severe job losses across the Texas hemp industry, directly threatening numerous families. The Legislative Budget Board (LBB) warns of a projected negative impact of approximately $19.27 million on general revenue-related funds by the end of the current biennium in August 2027.

Decreased Consumer Choices

This bill does not represent the voice of the Texas populace. Many residents of the state have actively expressed their desire for controlled and accessible hemp products. Public hearings have revealed general opposition to the bill, underscoring community support for ongoing access to a diverse range of hemp-derived goods.

Regulatory Challenges

With SB 3 limiting consumable products strictly to isolated forms of CBD and CBG, the breadth of available options for consumers would drastically shrink.
