Duty Free Americas Chosen for Exclusive JFK Airport Terminal One Duty-Free Operations

Duty Free Americas Appointed as Duty-Free Operator at JFK's New Terminal One

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), in collaboration with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports, has announced the selection of Duty Free Americas (DFA) as the official duty-free operator for the highly anticipated New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This new terminal, envisioned to redefine the passenger experience, is set to open in phases from 2026 to 2030.

Spanning nearly 20,000 square feet, Duty Free Americas will operate under the unique branding of Skyline Duty Free. This innovative retail space aims to evoke New York City's iconic skyline while showcasing an impressive array of global luxury brands complemented by locally sourced artisanal products from New York City and Queens.

DFA’s flagship location will be the focal point of the terminal’s commercial area dubbed the “World’s Runway.” Architectural designs for the store will complement the grandeur of the terminal, featuring an opulent, multi-level layout with various attractions. Shoppers will be greeted at the entrance by “Love Local,” a storefront celebrating local businesses and creators from New York and Queens.

Once inside, travelers can indulge in a rich shopping experience inspired by Fifth Avenue elegance mixed with Art Deco aesthetics. The central hub will include an experiential center showcasing virtual reality experiences, fashion installations, and brand activations that resonate with the vibrancy of New York City neighborhoods. This immersive area will highlight a variety of cultural and local themes, encouraging shoppers to engage with products in a unique and interactive way.

A New Standard for Airport Retail

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole emphasized the significance of this project, stating, "As an all-international terminal, New Terminal One serves as the region's gateway to the world. It demands a retail experience that meets the expectations of global travelers."

Jennifer Aument, CEO of the New Terminal One, expressed excitement about collaborating with Duty Free Americas, promising a retail landscape that blends local culture with renowned international brands. The flagship Skyline Duty Free will cater to travelers seeking the perfect gift or a last-minute treat before departure, emphasizing uniquely New York products.

URW's Chief Operating Officer, Dominic Lowe, highlighted the potential of this initiative as a transformative opportunity for JFK Airport's retail sector, aiming to balance international prestige with local flavor.

Premium Product Selections and Innovations

Skyline Duty Free will present a curated collection of luxury items, including premium spirits, international wines, skincare products, fragrances, gourmet treats, fashion accessories, and exclusive collaborations unique to New Terminal One. Among the latest retail innovations, travelers can anticipate holographic displays, immersive tasting experiences, and AI-driven beauty consultations enhancing their shopping journey.

A standout feature of Skyline Duty Free will be its Cash Carry experience, allowing travelers to take their purchases directly with them rather than deferring collection until boarding. This streamlined service is designed to optimize the passenger experience and reduce boarding delays.

Commitment to Local Partnership

Duty Free Americas’ selection is also marked by its commitment to community interaction. The joint venture includes a robust percentage of Airport Certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBEs) as partners, ensuring local businesses have a platform within this expansive new terminal. This initiative reflects a dual focus on providing a diverse product mix while empowering local enterprises to thrive in a global market.

James Phillips, owner of BBJ Concessions, highlighted the significant impact these partnerships can make in the community, underlining a dedication to not just business growth but also community enrichment.

This investment in retail at JFK is part of a broader $9.5 billion transformation, aiming to elevate the airport to a competitive status among the world's best. The New Terminal One will encompass 23 gates across more than 300,000 square feet designated for retail and dining, showcasing cutting-edge designs that embrace sustainability and modern technology.

Looking Toward the Future

The New Terminal One at JFK is not simply a transportation hub but an experience that encapsulates the vibrant ethos of New York City while offering an unparalleled shopping experience. As it develops, it promises to set new standards for international travel and shopping at airports, with Duty Free Americas leading the charge.

As the opening of the New Terminal One approaches, there is palpable excitement among travelers and the local community alike, eager to experience this revolutionary retail space designed to cater to both international visitors and local residents.
