SunPower Origin Solar Panels Debut in Europe with Innovative Technology and Impressive Warranty

SunPower Origin: A New Era in Solar Energy

Introduction

TCL SunPower Global has recently announced the launch of its latest solar panel series, SunPower Origin, across Europe. This innovative product represents the 8th generation of back-contact technology, which has been a cornerstone of SunPower's solar solutions for decades. With the backing of a remarkable 40-year warranty, this launch aims to solidify SunPower's position as a leader in solar energy solutions.

Key Features of SunPower Origin

The SunPower Origin panels incorporate several advanced technologies that enhance their efficiency and longevity. Notably, the back-contact cell design allows for all electrical connections to be situated on the back of the cell, thereby maximizing the surface area available for sunlight absorption on the front. This innovative design is a significant advancement from previous generations and demonstrates SunPower's commitment to evolving solar technology.

Another key aspect of the Origin series is its resilience against environmental factors. The panels have been certified to withstand hailstones up to 40 mm in diameter, travelling at speeds of 27.5 m/s, ensuring that they can endure harsh weather conditions.

Pioneering Technology

According to Steven Zhang, General Manager of TCL SunPower Global, the company was the first to bring back-contact technology into commercial production in 2004. This experience has been invaluable, allowing them to learn about the behavioral characteristics of solar cells over time, especially concerning wear and tear from environmental exposure. Therefore, the extensive testing and real-world applications have led to the confident assertion of a 40-year warranty on these panels.

The new design employs lithography for cell patterning instead of traditional laser processing. This technique reduces the risk of micro-cracks, which can affect performance over time. Additionally, the solder used in connecting the cells can withstand temperatures up to 220°C, further enhancing durability.

Performance and Efficiency

SunPower Origin panels demonstrate superior performance, especially in partially shaded environments. With a 54-cell configuration mimicking the performance of over 16,000 bypass diodes, the panels maintain thermal efficiency and mitigate hot-spot risks that often occur due to shading from structures, foliage, or other obstructions.

Karin Alberto-Burkhardt, Director of PV Product Management at TCL SunPower Global, emphasizes that SunPower Origin panels are designed for reliability. The comprehensive warranty covers not just the product itself but also its power output and service for the full duration. This is supported by a proven track record, with a warranty return rate of just 0.005%, making the SunPower Origin a solid investment for both residential and commercial markets.

Market Availability

Orders for the SunPower Origin are now open for SunPower partners across Europe. Anticipated first deliveries are scheduled before the conclusion of 2026, making it an attractive option for homeowners and businesses looking to invest in renewable energy solutions.

The residential variant of the panel measures 1,800 × 1,134 mm and provides up to 505 watts at an impressive efficiency rate of up to 24.7%. For commercial applications, the bifacial model, which collects light from both sides, offers up to 615 watts and has a bifaciality rating of 80%, ideal for commercial rooftops with complex layouts.

An invitation is extended to potential installers interested in becoming SunPower partners, with applications available through their dedicated portal.

Conclusion

The launch of the SunPower Origin is a testament to TCL SunPower Global's ongoing commitment to providing high-performance solar solutions. As the world increasingly turns to renewable energy, the integration of advanced technologies in products like the SunPower Origin positions it as a key player in the clean energy market. With a strong history, proven durability, and exceptional performance, the Origin panels seem set to make a significant impact in the solar industry.
