Fujipan Launches 'Sustain Month' with Eco-Friendly Initiatives for the Future

Fujipan Introduces 'Sustain Month'

Starting August 1, 2025, Fujipan Co., Ltd., located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, will kick off 'Sustain Month.' This initiative highlights the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability by incorporating a green accent into the packaging of its flagship products, the 'Hon Shikomi' and 'Neo Butter Roll' series.

This month-long campaign aims to raise awareness regarding environmental issues and showcase Fujipan's ongoing efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, a goal recognized by the SBT Initiative. By focusing on sustainability through the context of everyday bread consumption, Fujipan encourages consumers to consider eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

Green Packaging: A Symbol of Sustainability

Within the newly designed packaging for its flagship products, Fujipan features the 'SustainaNeobata-kun' as a symbolic representation of its commitment to sustainability. This design transformation goes beyond a mere aesthetic update. It also serves to 'visualize' the company's dedication to environmental concerns, such as:
  • - Reducing material weight of plastic packaging,
  • - Implementing environmentally considerate packaging,
  • - Utilizing sustainable raw materials,
  • - Reducing CO₂ emissions during the production process,
  • - Minimizing resource waste,
  • - Reducing food loss.

The green accent will be present on shelves for approximately one month, although specific end dates may vary depending on products and release areas.

Environmental Initiatives: Looking Towards the Future

Fujipan has been making strides in sustainability since 2022 by incorporating biomass materials into the packaging of the 'Hon Shikomi' and 'Neo Series.' This change resulted in approximately a 6.8% reduction in CO₂ emissions. More specific initiatives are:
  • - 2022: Environmental-friendly fasteners and biomass ink were utilized, with a 27.1% reduction via reduced packaging size and material changes for the 'Neo Butter Roll' series.
  • - 2023: A thickness change in the 'Hon Shikomi' packaging film led to a further 27.1% reduction in CO₂ emissions.
  • - 2024: 'Hon Shikomi' will introduce domestic wheat, representing 10% of the wheat content in its products.
  • - 2025: Changes in the film used for 'Neo Butter Roll' packaging aim for a 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions.
Additionally, starting in 2025, 'Hon Shikomi' will begin using RSPO-certified palm oil.

Join the Social Media Campaign

In conjunction with 'Sustain Month,' Fujipan is launching a participatory social media campaign on their official X account. Participants can engage by following and reposting to share their own small environmental actions with the hashtag '#FujipanSustainMonth.' The campaign period runs from August 1 to August 31, 2025. Ten lucky winners will receive a 'SustainaNeobata-kun plush toy' measuring approximately 23 cm tall, 32 cm long, and 30 cm wide.

Special Event with GiGO

Fujipan is collaborating with the entertainment company GENDA GiGO to host a special event on August 1, 2025, at their flagship store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Event participants will have the chance to play a free Fujipan crane game where they can win the 'SustainaNeobata-kun' plush toy and other original Fujipan merchandise. A special broadcast of the 'Neo Butter Roll' commercial will play multiple times throughout the event.

To participate in the GiGO crane game, attendees must:
1. Follow Fujipan's official X account.
2. Obtain either the 'Neo Whole Wheat Roll' or 'Neo Rye Roll' from the crane game and post a review with photos tagged with '#FujipanSustainMonth' on social media.
3. Once verified, players can challenge themselves for Fujipan's original plush toys and goodies.

Note that participation in these challenges is limited to one entry per person per visit, and supplies are limited, so it’s first come, first served.
