Carl S. Carande Joins United Community Banks' Board of Directors

In a significant move aimed at boosting its strategic direction, United Community Banks, Inc. has announced the appointment of Carl S. Carande to its Board of Directors. Carande brings with him a wealth of experience from over four decades in the financial sector, including significant roles in Big Four consulting firms, making him a valuable asset for the bank.

Carande's career spans various sectors, primarily focusing on advising executive management and boards across multiple industries. His extensive background covers finance, enterprise risk, technology, and organizational strategy. This will be of particular importance as United Community continues to leverage these areas for organizational growth and the enhancement of accountability.

Before joining United Community, Carande spent 25 years at KPMG LLP, culminating in positions such as Global Head of Advisory and U.S. Advisory Vice Chair. During his time there, he not only led substantial strategic initiatives but also significantly contributed to developing KPMG's business integration risk management offerings. Under his leadership, KPMG's Southeast Advisory practice transformed into a major growth contributor, expanding the firm's capabilities and market penetration.

Lynn Harton, Chairman and CEO of United Community, expressed enthusiasm about Carande's addition to the Board, noting his deep industry respect and extensive knowledge will undoubtedly bolster the Bank’s Board of Directors. Harton stated, "We are honored to welcome him to our team and look forward to working together to advance our long-term success."

Moreover, Lead Director Thomas Richlovsky highlighted that Carande's strategic perspective will provide critical insights as United navigates its growth trajectory, particularly in serving its customers and communities more effectively.

Prior to his tenure at KPMG, Carande made his mark at Bank of America, where he served as the global director of corporate cash management pricing and analysis. In this role, he was pivotal in managing a cash-management product suite that generated an impressive $1.4 billion in revenue.

Upon his appointment, Carande expressed his commitment to the team, stating, "I am honored to join the United Community Board. United has built a strong organization grounded in exceptional service and a meaningful commitment to its communities. I look forward to working with the Board and leadership team as the company continues to grow and build upon that success."

Carande holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and a Bachelor of Science degree in organizational systems design from California State University, Northridge. With a well-rounded educational foundation combined with practical expertise, he is well-equipped to contribute to the bank's future strategic initiatives.
