Newly Improved Family Health & Wellness Center Opens in Mount Vernon with Focus on Community Care

Major Upgrades to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital

On December 15, 2025, a significant milestone was achieved in community healthcare when Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard and Montefiore Einstein introduced the renovated Family Health & Wellness Center at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital. This project marks the initial phase of a comprehensive transformation plan that has received strong backing from a $41 million New York State Capital Transformation Program. The newly modernized center, covering 8,200 square feet, is designed to enhance both primary and specialty care services for local residents.

The unveiling event was filled with optimism as city officials and community leaders gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This event symbolizes our commitment to taking action based on community needs,” stated Mayor Patterson-Howard, emphasizing the collaboration between Montefiore Einstein and local partners to enhance healthcare access for Mount Vernon residents.

Expanded Services and Modern Touches
The updated Family Health & Wellness Center is set to welcome patients beginning December 22, featuring comprehensive services across various specialties, including cardiology, gynecology, infectious diseases, and neurology. Additionally, the introduction of new services, such as ear, nose, and throat medicine, reflects Montefiore's responsiveness to evolving community health needs as established by recent assessments.

Regginald Jordan, Vice President for Clinical Services and Executive Director of Montefiore Wakefield Hospital and Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, expressed enthusiasm about the facility's reopening. “Today signifies a fresh start for Montefiore Einstein in Mount Vernon,” he commented, noting that collaborative efforts among state officials and local leaders are pivotal in boosting community healthcare access.

The renovations include state-of-the-art medical equipment, ergonomically sound exam rooms, mobile patient monitoring devices, and a new electronic medical record system, all aimed at streamlining patient care and services. The previously underutilized center, which saw fewer than 10,000 patient visits annually, is anticipated to more than double its patient interactions as new services come online.

Future Outlook and Continued Improvements
Looking forward, additional phases of the transformation plan will include redesigning the Emergency Department and enhancing operating rooms with cutting-edge technology. These developments are projected to be completed by the latter half of 2027. New York State Senator Jamaal T.
