The Specialty Food Association (SFA) recently hosted the 70th Annual Summer Fancy Food Show, an event that has become a hallmark in the specialty food and beverage industry. Taking place from June 28-30, 2026, at the Javits Center in New York City, this year’s show attracted over 32,000 industry professionals, including buyers, distributors, press, and manufacturers from around the world. With 2,529 exhibitors representing a wide array of unique products, this year marked a significant growth in participation and enthusiasm.

Expansion and Engagement



One of the standout features of the event was the notable increase in space, expanding to more than 345,000 square feet, representing the largest footprint the show has seen in six years. A remarkable 9,100 registered buyers attended, reflecting an 8% increase from the previous year. This surge in attendance emphasized the growing interest in specialty food products and their increasing footprint in various retail spaces.

Throughout the three-day event, participants were treated to a bonanza of flavors, textures, and innovative practices that set the stage for the food industry’s future. Over 700 new products were debuted at the show, alongside 421 first-time exhibitors, which provided a platform for emerging brands to gain visibility and connect with potential buyers.

New Experiences and Trends



The Specialty Food Show is always about community and connection, but this year it also highlighted dynamic food and retail trends. New pavilions and unique activations were introduced, including the Fancy Bodega, designed to replicate New York City’s vibrant food culture. Visitors navigated through an immersive retail environment where they could discover the latest offerings.

The Spark Pavilion showcased more than 50 first-time exhibitors, incubators, and brands thriving on innovative ideas. The introduction of the Good Food Mercantile within the Summer Fancy Food Show provided a platform for 77 makers who prioritize taste, quality, and sustainability in their products. This initiative highlights the growing consumer demand for responsible and delicious food options.

Among the educational opportunities, attendees were treated to over 20 inspiring sessions led by industry experts, including a keynote address from acclaimed Chef Marcus Samuelsson. He discussed the evolving patterns of consumption and the intersectionality of food, culture, and innovation. Topics ranged from direct-to-consumer strategies to the impact of AI in the food industry, providing insights aimed at enhancing participant's approach to market trends.

Celebrating Innovation and Impact



One of the most exciting segments of the event was the Fancy Face-Off pitch competition, allowing entrepreneurs to present their stories and products in front of influential judges. This year, 50 Hertz Tingly Foods captured the grand prize of $10,000, showcasing the vibrancy and potential of new market entrants.

Moreover, the annual People Awards Ceremony recognized outstanding contributions to the industry. Hosted by renowned food writer Dana Cowin, the ceremony honored leaders and innovators while celebrating the upcoming cohort of Maker Prep graduates who are set to shape the future of specialty food.

Sustainable Practices



Championing sustainability, the SFA coordinated an Exhibitor Food Donation Program with City Harvest, successfully donating over 70,000 pounds of specialty food to New Yorkers in need. This initiative addresses food waste while contributing positively to community welfare, demonstrating that the specialty food industry is not only about profit but also about responsibility.
