Gotham Launches the Gotham Growth Project
In an exciting initiative to uplift underserved communities, Gotham, recognized as the world’s first cannabis concept store, has announced the
Gotham Growth Project (GGP). This innovative business accelerator program is dedicated to supporting growth-stage cannabis brands, focusing particularly on Black-owned businesses in New York City.
The GGP is geared towards entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated the challenging entry barriers in the cannabis industry, providing them with the structure and strategic guidance necessary for sustainable growth. Gotham’s inaugural cohort aims to equip founders from New York City's five boroughs, as well as areas like Westchester County and Long Island, to enhance their operations and scale their brands effectively.
Program Highlights
The program comprises six detailed sessions designed to address various facets of a cannabis business. Participants will gain invaluable insights into:
1.
Brand Foundation and Positioning: Crafting a strong identity in a competitive market.
2.
Product Development and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring products meet industry standards and legal requirements.
3.
Operations and Sales Strategy: Optimizing processes for greater efficiency and sales efficacy.
4.
Retail Readiness and Partnerships: Preparing for successful retail launches and building strategic partnerships.
5.
Financial Planning and Capital Preparedness: Understanding funding options and financial management.
6.
Storytelling, Pitching, and Executive Presence: Mastering the art of communication to convey the brand’s vision.
These sessions will integrate expert instruction, peer collaboration, and practical assignments, equipping founders to effectively tackle the challenges they face in the marketplace.
Making an Impact
Kenny Anderson, Chief Operating Officer of Gotham, emphasized the importance of the GGP, stating, "Too many founders from underserved communities are expected to navigate growth on their own after clearing the hardest barriers to entry." He believes that GGP serves as a crucial support system, especially during pivotal moments where decisions can significantly impact the future of their businesses.
Joanne Wilson, the founder and CEO of Gotham, further elaborated on the inception of the GGP, revealing that it emerged from consistent feedback from store teams advocating for more diverse representation among the brands they carry. Wilson noted, "GGP is our response and also our responsibility to the people who make Gotham what it is. This is a tangible, intentional way to support Black founders who are already building strong products."
Eligibility and Future Opportunities
To qualify for the GGP, applicants should be at least 51% Black-owned and operated, have one year of business experience, and currently sell products in licensed dispensaries or regulated marketplaces. The program will conclude with an anticipated live pitch showcase at
