Mori Trust's Vision for Sendai: Progress and Community Engagement in the New Year

A New Year’s Greeting from Mori Trust Sendai Branch Manager

In the spirit of the New Year, I would like to express my greetings. Last July, I took over as the branch manager of Mori Trust in Sendai. Our company has continuously strived to enhance the necessary urban functions to further develop Sendai as an international city.

In 1999, we completed the Sendai MT Building, Japan’s first ultra-high-rise aseismic structure. By 2010, we had finished the Sendai Trust Tower, a facility that combines international-standard hotels, commercial spaces, and high-function offices. During the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, our building minimized damage thanks to its vibration-absorbing construction. Additionally, our emergency generators quickly activated, allowing us to provide shelter for approximately 3,600 stranded individuals in the city at our first-floor entrance.

Throughout the year, we have also hosted a variety of events at the Trust City Plaza, contributing to the lively atmosphere in the area.

As for last year, I was particularly pleased to participate for the first time in the “Yanagimachi Summer Festival” held annually in July along Yanagimachi Street. Through activities like the children's portable shrines and ceremonial performances, we significantly contributed to regional engagement. Furthermore, we hosted seasonal events aimed at inviting our neighbors year-round and successfully attracted three new restaurants on the second floor of Sendai Trust City to enhance the satisfaction of local workers and residents.

Reflecting on the social circumstances surrounding the Sendai area, a persistent issue is the declining population, impacting the business environment. Companies are ramping up their efforts for talent acquisition, and to ensure sustainable growth, it is essential to create not only a comfortable office space that attracts outstanding talent but also a vibrant urban environment conducive to a fulfilling daily life. Given this reality, our company will continue its activities to contribute to the economic advancement of various businesses in the Sendai area.

On the tourism front, the Sendai-Bangkok flight route resumed last December after nearly six years, sparking great expectations for increased inbound demand. The Westin Hotel Sendai, part of Sendai Trust City, will play a vital role in providing a comfortable stay for overseas guests and supporting our tourism efforts.

Sendai, a compact city integrating rich nature and urban functions, holds immense potential to meet diverse needs. Moving forward, centered around the Sendai Trust Tower, our company is dedicated to providing attractive spaces and events for office workers, local residents, and tourists to stimulate the regional economy. We aim to contribute to the sustainable urban development and enhancement of Sendai’s appeal.

We kindly ask for your continued support this year as well.
