SO-SO SPINS TOKYO: A Unique Sound Experience Traveling Through Tokyo's Yamanote Line

SO-SO SPINS TOKYO: The Sound of Tokyo

On April 22, 2025, artist SO-SO will unveil his latest sound project, "SO-SO SPINS TOKYO," which creatively interprets Tokyo's famous Yamanote Line into a compelling digital album. This initiative from COCO Gallery, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, marks a significant blend of music and the unique tapestry of sounds from the city's bustling train stations.

SO-SO, a World Human Beatbox Champion and eminent music producer, brings his exceptional beatboxing talents and field recordings from all 30 Yamanote Line stations to life. Utilizing the advanced BOSS RC-505MKII Loop Station, he meticulously crafts a 30-track album that travels through the tracks of the circular train line, culminating in a musical experience lasting approximately 60 minutes. This album is not just a musical collection; it’s an auditory journey meticulously woven with the time it takes to travel between each station, beautifully incorporated with the sounds that characterize each unique locale.

What is SO-SO SPINS TOKYO?

The Yamanote Line, a vital lifeline for around 9 million daily commuters in Tokyo, provides the perfect backdrop for SO-SO’s sound project. Within "SO-SO SPINS TOKYO," listeners will embark on a sonic voyage through the 30 stations, celebrating the essence of life and movement in Tokyo.

“This project is like a loop,” SO-SO explains, “much like the train itself. It continuously transports listeners through sound, making it an eternal journey. The BOSS RC-505MKII Loop Station and the diverse sounds captured from each location come together to create an experience that mirrors the dynamic energy of Tokyo.”

The album, designed in a mixtape format, allows each track to blend seamlessly into the next, echoing the infinity of the Yamanote Line. This innovative approach highlights the concept of 'three unities' — the loop station, the circular train route, and the groovy rhythms — forming an unprecedented “TOKYO SOUND JOURNEY” that distinguishes itself within the realm of music.
