The Initiatives for a Cleaner and Safer City in Adachi Ward

Efforts of Palsystem Tokyo Towards a Beautiful and Safe City

On November 19, 2023, Palsystem Tokyo's Adachi Center received the 'Beautiful Partner Award' from Adachi Ward, acknowledging its commitment to waste reduction and proper waste management activities. The award ceremony took place at Nishiarai Cultural Hall, attended by Hirotoshi Sakamoto, the center director.

The 'Beautiful Partner Award' is part of the 'Beautiful Windows Movement' initiated by Adachi Ward, aimed at fostering a safe and crime-free community through collaboration with organizations and individuals promoting environmental safety and beautification. The recognition highlights Palsystem's collaborative efforts in crime prevention activities, community beautification, and traffic safety initiatives. The center's active promotion of waste reduction initiatives and proper waste management practices has been particularly valued.

Sakamoto expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that the center will continue to engage users in recycling programs and enhance the rate of recycling for product packaging. Palsystem leverages its weekly delivery service to collect used plastic bags, catalogs, and paper packs from customers, promoting recycling efforts throughout its operations.

In an advanced initiative, Palsystem has adopted reusable bottles for condiments, allowing for the collection of these items, cleaning them, and facilitating their reuse. The coordination with manufacturers and suppliers has led to a decrease in the overall use of plastic, with measures successfully implemented across 616 products by March 2025.

Palsystem Tokyo actively promotes the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' approach through collaboration with users, striving to minimize environmental impact. This approach also extends to combating food waste through the cooperative's delivery services. By accepting orders one week in advance, they only order the necessary quantity from producers and manufacturers, effectively reducing the need to hold excess stock and thereby helping to minimize food waste. Customers enjoy competitive pricing without bearing the costs of surplus stock as a result.

The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives. Palsystem Tokyo commits to developing food systems that mitigate environmental impact through cooperation with its members, business partners, and government administrations, driving towards sustainable production and consumption practices.
