Cardinal Health and Hogi Medical Join Forces on Remanufactured Medical Devices Sales
Collaboration for Sustainable Healthcare
Cardinal Health, a prominent healthcare services and products company, has announced a strategic sales agreement with Hogi Medical, a Japanese medical device manufacturer. This partnership particularly focuses on the remanufactured single-use medical devices (R-SUDs) aimed at reducing medical waste while ensuring sustained operational efficiency in healthcare facilities.
Details of the Agreement
The sales contract includes Hogi Medical's remanufactured air pressure massage cuff, named "Remanufactured Cuff C (Hogi)". This innovative product is designed to help prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and is based on the SCD700 series, a medical device certified for safety and effectiveness. Cardinal Health plans to introduce the remanufactured cuff to healthcare institutions across Japan starting in June 2025.
Understanding Remanufactured Single-Use Devices (R-SUD)
To comprehend the significance of this collaboration, one must understand what R-SUD means. These devices include previously used single-use medical instruments that are collected, inspected, cleaned, sterilized, and remanufactured by medical device manufacturers. After this meticulous process, these devices can be safely reused, thus minimizing waste and costs associated with disposal.
In the United States, the remanufacturing of single-use devices is already well established and growing globally. By adopting R-SUDs, healthcare institutions can significantly reduce both medical waste and the associated disposal expenses.
Vision for Sustainable Healthcare
Both Cardinal Health and Hogi Medical are committed to promoting sustainable healthcare through the manufacturing and sales of R-SUDs. By addressing current issues in the medical field, such as the excessive use of single-use devices and their subsequent waste, they aim to make a positive contribution to society.
Insightful Comments from Company Leaders
Yoshiyoshi Noda, President of Cardinal Health Japan, expressed that R-SUDs are solutions to pressing challenges faced by medical institutions today. Not only do these products help mitigate the risks associated with the reuse of single-use devices, but they also contribute to environmental sustainability by minimizing medical waste.
He stated, "Through this sales contract, we aim to support not just healthcare but also the broader objective of creating a sustainable society."
Hideki Kawakubo, President of Hogi Medical, emphasized the potential of R-SUDs in addressing Japan’s healthcare financial challenges and operational needs of medical facilities. He acknowledged the necessity for a stable supply of medical devices while reducing waste. "By collaborating with Cardinal Health on this R-SUD initiative, we aim to accelerate solutions to these healthcare challenges, ensuring sustainable health and well-being for patients," Kawakubo added.
