Introducing Japan's First Sustainable Luxury Hotel: 1 Hotel Tokyo

Introduction to 1 Hotel Tokyo

In a remarkable expansion, 1 Hotels has made its first foray into Japan with the launch of 1 Hotel Tokyo in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo. Known for its visionary approach to hospitality, founder Barry Sternlicht brings forth a mission-driven hotel that emphasizes sustainability, wellness, and connection to nature.

Situated on the 38th to 43rd floors of the Akasaka Trust Tower, the hotel offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Imperial Palace East Garden, Tokyo Tower, and the city's skyline. This urban sanctuary is designed to immerse guests in a rich blend of nature and luxury, providing a fresh hospitality experience in the heart of Tokyo.

Collaborative Vision

1 Hotel Tokyo is a product of collaboration between 1 Hotels and Mori Trust, a leading Japanese real estate development firm. It serves as a centerpiece in the Tokyo World Gate Akasaka development, a pedestrian-centered area harmonizing commercial, cultural, and residential spaces. Located at the vibrant center of Tokyo's culture and business, Akasaka provides an ideal base for exploring the city's diverse attractions, including easy access to Ginza, Roppongi, and Shibuya, while also being surrounded by parks, shrines, and embassies that highlight the area's unique character.

Sternlicht expressed his admiration for Japan's profound respect for nature, stating, “During decades of visiting Japan, I have been moved by the beauty of gardens, the tranquility of parks, and the deep respect for nature.” With 1 Hotel Tokyo, he aims to encapsulate the serene harmony found within this bustling metropolis.

Miwako Date, President of Mori Trust, believes that this hotel will enhance the vision of Akasaka as a forward-looking district where business, culture, and greenery coexist.

Inspired Design Journey

The design of 1 Hotel Tokyo boasts an immersion into nature as guests transition from the busy streets to the serene interiors. The interiors are crafted by the globally recognized design studio CRÈME, promoting a sense of arrival that unfolds like a story. Elements such as green walls herald the shift from urban hustle to tranquility, while the lobby exudes an inviting ambiance reminiscent of a leafy canopy. Natural motifs are woven throughout the hotel, with designs echoing the organic flow of air and clouds.

The hotel features 211 rooms, including 24 luxurious suites, all designed to blend Japan's minimalist style with contemporary comforts. Each room is adorned with biophilic art made from preserved moss, and selected plants, ensuring a deep connection to nature. Guests can enjoy spectacular views of the Imperial Palace and Tokyo's dynamic skyline from select rooms.

Dining Experiences

Dining at 1 Hotel Tokyo plays a crucial role in shaping the guest experience. The ambiance evolves from morning to night, with three distinct venues that appeal to both locals and travelers. NiNi, Spotted Stone, and Neighbors Café serve as inviting spaces fostering connection and well-being.

At the helm of NiNi is Nico Policarpo, a chef with experience in renowned restaurants in Tokyo and David Chang's Momofuku Group in Toronto. The restaurant theme, inspired by the concept of two cultures and coasts, marries the relaxed elegance of the French Riviera with refined Japanese elements. Signature dishes highlight the essence of seasonal ingredients, showcasing a cooking technique rarely seen in Japan – the Josper grill, which enhances the natural flavors of meat and seafood.
