Institute for Financial Integrity and Crowell & Moring Expand Their Global Training Program on Sanctions and Export Controls

The Institute for Financial Integrity (IFI) and the law firm Crowell & Moring have recently announced an expansion of their training program that focuses on sanctions and export controls. In the last two years, this strategic program has made significant strides across 18 countries, and its expansion into an additional 10 nations demonstrates its effectiveness and the increasing demand for such knowledge in a globalized economy.

In today’s interconnected financial landscape, understanding and adhering to sanctions regulations is crucial. This training program targets a diverse array of stakeholders, including financial regulators, law enforcement agencies, customs and border services, financial institutions, legal firms, and logistics companies. The initiative has brought together key players from both public and private sectors, emphasizing their pivotal role in maintaining global financial integrity.

David (Dj) Wolff, co-chair of the International Trade Group at Crowell & Moring, stated, “It has been a privilege and a pleasure to organize this training in various countries, engaging directly with central banks, financial institutions, and compliance professionals devoted to overcoming challenges in our complex regulatory environment.” He also expressed excitement about continuing this important collaboration in the forthcoming year.

This training program is specifically designed to enhance understanding of sanctions policies and practical risk management. Attendees will benefit from comprehensive coverage of multilateral and bilateral sanctions regimes, trade control processes, new evasion tactics, and mitigation strategies. The program offers:

  • - In-Person Instructor-Led Training: Participants engage in immersive, scenario-based sessions tailored to local contexts, complemented by live interpretation services.
  • - Industry Certification: Participants can also attain a Global Sanctions Certification (CRMS-GS) through IFI, validating their advanced knowledge and skill set to identify, assess, and manage current and emerging sanctions-related risks.
  • - Continuous Online Training: A yearlong access to the IFI's DOLFIN platform, featuring expert insights, webinars, newsletters, and a compliance assistant powered by AI, ensures ongoing learning opportunities.

Natalie Pulsifer, Senior Director at IFI, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with one of the world’s most reputable law firms to deliver a training program that establishes a global standard. This collaboration combines deep legal expertise with practical training for institutions facing the rapidly evolving risk landscape.”

The enduring success of this initiative underscores a shared commitment to equip global institutions with the knowledge and tools necessary for navigating a complex regulatory environment effectively. This is essential not just for ensuring compliance but also for mitigating risks, ultimately safeguarding the integrity of the global financial system.

A masterclass webinar titled “Adapting to a Changing Regulatory Landscape” will be hosted next, where experts will discuss the current global framework of sanctions and export controls and what lies ahead. Interested individuals can join on May 21, 2025, from 12:00–1:00 PM EDT.
