In an exciting development for the local art scene, the TYPELESS Vol.3 exhibition has officially commenced at Shibuya Station, featuring a collection of works from selected artists. On February 25, 2026, the public was invited to experience the artwork on display, alongside a release event celebrating this milestone.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Shibuya Station Area Management Organization, with a focus on revitalizing public spaces and enhancing the vibrancy of Shibuya amidst ongoing urban redevelopment. With the objective of mitigating issues related to graffiti and unattractive stickers, TYPELESS aims to create an engaging environment where artists can thrive and express their creativity.

What is TYPELESS?

Following its initial launch in 2023, TYPELESS has rapidly gained popularity, with the latest iteration showcasing artwork from four talented artists—Uki Yagi, Marino Funahashi, Jō Katayama, and Ryosuke Misawa. The exhibition takes place at eight pillars along the Mark City crossover bridge. Notably, Vol.3 saw a record number of applications, attracting 78 submissions, a clear testament to the platform's growing influence within the art community.

This remarkable increase in interest reflects a rising engagement from artists, who view urban spaces as a canvas for sustained artistic expression. Throughout its three editions, TYPELESS has strategically designed opportunities that emphasize continuous growth.

The Release Event

The launch event, held at Shibuya Hikarie 8/COURT, featured not only the displayed original artworks but also an informative session for the media. This included a panel discussion with the Secretary-General of the Shibuya Station Area Management Organization, Daisuke Minezaki, and the participating artists.

In his speech, Minezaki highlighted the importance of managing public spaces and incorporating art as a means to enhance urban aesthetics. Over the years, the organization has focused on revitalizing the Shibuya area through various projects, including outdoor advertising, public space utilization, and communication design.

Addressing Urban Challenges

The TYPELESS project serves as a practical solution to the challenges of graffiti and unsightly stickers by promoting structural changes rather than mere removal. With successful initiatives in previous volumes, such as reducing graffiti around the Mark City area, TYPELESS aims to transform public spaces into welcoming environments.

According to Shō Kataoka, the representative of Embedded Blue, TYPELESS is designed to be adaptable rather than strictly periodic, with plans to evolve in response to urban changes. As the model gains traction, there are opportunities to extend its practices to other regions without compromising the intrinsic value of the art.
