GSI's Sustainable Initiatives: Eco-Cap and Food Drive Activities Supporting Children in Need
In a remarkable effort to support community welfare and sustainability, GSI, a renowned IT solutions provider based in Sapporo, Japan, has implemented two impactful initiatives: the Eco-Cap activity and the Food Drive activity. These endeavors are part of the company’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing social contributions through responsible practices.
Overview of the Initiatives
GSI has been actively engaged in these activities since the second quarter of 2025, focusing on collecting plastic bottle caps and food donations to support local children’s welfare programs. The plastic caps collected are sold, with the proceeds going to the Eco-Cap Promotion Association, an NPO dedicated to supporting disabled individuals and running children’s cafeterias. Similarly, food items gathered through the Food Drive initiative are donated to Good Neighbors Japan, which helps single-parent households that require assistance.
Background of the Activities
Since the launch of the Food Drive in 2024, GSI has strengthened its commitment to environmental and social contributions. As part of their ongoing efforts, they have introduced the Eco-Cap activity in 2025, emphasizing that this initiative is not merely about waste reduction. The Eco-Cap Promotion Association aligns closely with GSI's values and enhances their capacity to tackle pressing societal issues.
The association’s efforts in recycling promote GSI’s sustainable practices, encouraging clients and employees to participate in eco-friendly activities. Additionally, the company's existing environmental initiatives, such as transitioning to LED lighting and utilizing renewable energy, resonate with the association's mission to reduce CO₂ emissions. By joining forces with organizations that support food programs for children and employment opportunities for marginalized groups, GSI actively contributes to creating a sustainable society.
Results of the Initiatives
Eco-Cap Activity
GSI organized collection efforts at various sites, including Sapporo, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Sendai. Employees enthusiastically participated, collecting a total of:
- - 3,554 caps
- - 7.80 kg
- - It brings the cumulative total to 7,267 caps, resulting in 53.54 kg of CO₂ emissions avoided.
In detail, burning one kilogram of caps generates approximately
3,150 g of CO₂, indicating a significant environmental benefit from the recycling efforts.
Food Drive Activity
The Food Drive was conducted principally at GSI’s Tokyo headquarters this year. Employees showed tremendous support by contributing:
- - 12 food items
- - Key contributions included 1 kg of rice and snacks such as popcorn and instant noodles.
This initiative successfully encourages not only food donations but also strengthens GSI's alignment with improving the welfare of children in need.
