Introduction to MCI Consult Doc
In a pioneering effort to support individuals facing the challenges of early dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the Nakajima Hospital in Sumida, Tokyo, has partnered with Dr. Kazuichi Nakane, a leading neurologist, and Chika Ishii, a licensed clinical psychologist, to launch an innovative online program named
MCI Consult Doc. This program aims to provide accessible, expert consultations and support for those concerned about their cognitive health.
The Philosophy Behind the Program
The primary mission of MCI Consult Doc is to alleviate the anxiety associated with dementia and empower individuals to live positively. It allows users to undergo specialized testing, diagnosis, and counseling from the comfort of their homes, thereby revolutionizing the way early dementia screening is conducted. Initially available to residents of the Kanto region (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba), there are plans for the service to expand nationwide over time.
Detailed Overview of the Service
MCI Consult Doc utilizes various assessment metrics to quantify cognitive functions, providing users and their families with a clearer understanding of the situation. Early detection of dementia can significantly decelerate its progression, prolonging independence. However, many individuals hesitate to seek help, thinking “it’s probably nothing.” To address this challenge, the program mandates online consultations with clinical psychologists to evaluate not just cognitive abilities but also emotional well-being. This comprehensive approach helps minimize the risk of overlooking initial symptoms, thus facilitating smoother transitions into necessary interventions.
Throughout the program, clients will receive psychological support, ensuring users and their families can approach the future with confidence.
Procedure for Participants
Participants can undergo MRI scans at nearby diagnostic centers (including Nakajima Hospital), while all other assessments are completed online. The gathered imaging data is then centralized at Nakajima Hospital, enhancing diagnostic accuracy.
MCI Consult Doc adopts the secure online medical system
Smart Cure, already proven in several foundational hospitals, ensuring a trustworthy experience. Smart Gate Co., a Tokyo-based company, has customized compatibility with other systems to meet specific requirements.
