Coco Robotics Expands Autonomous Delivery Operations in Washington, D.C.

Coco Robotics Launches Delivery in Washington, D.C.

Coco Robotics has officially launched its autonomous delivery services in Washington, D.C., marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion strategy. As the leading urban robot delivery platform, Coco's robots are set to assist restaurants and local retailers in delivering products effectively while alleviating common urban challenges such as traffic, emissions, and congestion.

Starting this summer, deliveries can be requested through various participating delivery partners, including DoorDash. Customers will be notified when a Coco robot reaches their location and can conveniently unlock the robot to retrieve their orders—no need for tips or additional fees. This innovative service aims to lower last-mile delivery costs by up to 20%, making it easier for customers to support local businesses.

Shawn Townsend, President and CEO of Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), expressed optimism about this development. He stated, "D.C.'s restaurant industry thrives when operators have access to innovative tools that improve service and efficiency. We're pleased to see Coco bring a new delivery option to the District that can help restaurants reach more customers with reliable, affordable, traffic-free deliveries while allowing staff to stay focused on their core business."

Coco's delivery robots are purpose-built for walkable areas such as Logan Circle in D.C. They operate at safe speeds and are designed to be friendly companions on the sidewalk, prioritizing pedestrian safety by yielding to foot traffic and adhering to local guidelines. The company collaborated with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to ensure that its operations align with city regulations and pedestrian safety practices. One unique feature of Coco’s service is its integration with BlindSquare, a navigation app that aids those with visual impairments, ensuring a more accessible environment for all pedestrians.

As Zach Rash, Co-Founder and CEO of Coco Robotics, commented, "Washington, D.C. marks another important step in building the future of local commerce. Great cities deserve delivery infrastructure that works for everyone—not just customers, but restaurants, workers, and neighborhoods. Our goal isn't simply to make deliveries more efficient. It's to help local businesses grow, make delivery more affordable, reduce unnecessary car trips, and build technology that fits naturally into the communities it serves."

The D.C. launch is part of Coco's broader expansion strategy, with over 500,000 deliveries already completed across various cities, including Los Angeles, Miami, and even parts of Europe. Each new deployment helps fine-tune the delivery process, focusing on providing safe sidewalks, supporting local businesses, and enhancing urban logistics tailored to the specific needs of each community.

In addition to rolling out new delivery services, Coco Robotics is committed to investing in the local workforce. For every ten robots deployed, approximately one full-time operations role is created, allowing individuals to pursue careers in fleet management, robotics operations, and maintenance. This commitment provides invaluable training and skills relevant to the evolving robotics industry, supporting the development of infrastructure needed for future urban solutions.

As the demand for their services increases, Coco Robotics is pushing to scale its fleet rapidly, aiming for thousands of vehicles by the end of 2026. The company is keen on continuing responsible deployment, maintaining strong community partnerships, and ensuring that urban goods are moved more efficiently as it expands across major U.S. cities and beyond.
