Mowilex Celebrates Seven Years of Verified Carbon Neutrality

PT Mowilex Indonesia, a renowned paint manufacturer, proudly announces a significant achievement in its sustainability journey: seven consecutive years of verified carbon neutrality. This milestone reflects the company's long-term commitment to managing its ecological footprint and advancing toward a more substantial reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Mowilex initially assessed its carbon footprint in 2018, and since then, it has expanded the scope of its emissions accounting to include all elements of Scope 1, 2, and key components of Scope 3 emissions. This extensive analysis has propelled deeper supplier engagement and the integration of carbon management within the company’s energy planning and operational strategies.

Yossy Tresinya Prameswari, the Chief Supply Chain Officer of Mowilex, shared insights on this transition, explaining that carbon management has evolved from a reporting task to a vital part of their operational and investment planning. “This evolution has made emissions reduction more practical and sustainable,” Prameswari noted.

Electricity consumption represents approximately 71% of Mowilex's total energy use, prompting the company to complement its electricity purchases with certified renewable sources. They are also investing in their own renewable energy generation facilities, significantly reducing their reliance on external power grids. Recently, Mowilex successfully completed a large-scale rooftop solar panel installation at their Cikande manufacturing facility, projected to cut the site's electricity consumption by up to 25%. This follows previous solar initiatives commenced in 2023 at their headquarters, which currently supplies about 25% of their energy requirements.

Niko Safavi, CEO of Mowilex Indonesia, pointed out the challenges of measuring Scope 3 emissions, which often pose the most difficulty for manufacturers. However, he stressed that genuine progress stems from actionable strategies and robust infrastructure rather than mere certification. “Real progress comes from execution and infrastructure, not certificates alone,” Safavi remarked.

To ensure clarity and consistency in their reporting, Mowilex has adopted the ISO 14064 standard for greenhouse gas emissions reporting, enhancing the credibility of their carbon accounting practices.

Mowilex’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues underscores its dedication to sustainable operations. The company is recognized for producing environmentally friendly, low- and zero-VOC products and has been named one of Indonesia's Best Managed Companies by Deloitte for four consecutive years, achieving Gold Standard status in 2025. This recognition highlights Mowilex's consistent product quality and the trust it has earned from its loyal customer base.
