Avondale Global Gateway Recognized with Louisiana FastSites Investment for Economic Growth
Avondale Global Gateway Selected for FastSites Investment
In a significant stride for economic development, Avondale Global Gateway (AGG) has been honored as the inaugural recipient of an investment facilitated through Louisiana's FastSites program. This initiative, orchestrated by the Louisiana Economic Development (LED), is designed to ensure the state is well-equipped to attract transformative industrial projects.
During the program's official launch in Baton Rouge, CEO Adam Anderson of AGG had the privilege of addressing attendees, underscoring the strategic relevance of the site to Louisiana's economic framework.
"Public investments enhancing the readiness of maritime and logistics sites are pivotal in advancing Louisiana’s trade economy," stated Mike Thomas, Chairman of the Port of New Orleans Board. The Avondale Global Gateway serves as a vital multimodal logistics hub under Port NOLA's purview, confirming that infrastructure advancements in Jefferson Parish reinforce the region’s capacity to foster economic opportunity.
Transformative Shift in Infrastructure
Since T. Parker Host, the parent company of AGG, acquired the erstwhile Avondale Shipyard property, the team has been tireless in transforming this 275-acre site into a premier logistics hub. Originally housing just six employees, the site now boasts a workforce exceeding 600, comprising operations, tenants, and ongoing construction activities. The restoration of four deepwater docks along the Mississippi River and crucial infrastructure redevelopment underscore this evolution.
As AGG rapidly expands, the need for enhanced infrastructure has become pressing. The recent FastSites investment is allocated towards a significant expansion of rail capacity amid surging demand. Plans outline the construction of an extended Union Pacific connection and additional on-site tracks exceeding 30,000 feet. Once operational, AGG's rail capacity will surge from over 7,000 cars to more than 16,500 annually, empowering the site to manage upwards of 75 rail cars each day – a doubling of the current throughput capacity that promises to generate over 1,300 jobs across its operations and tenants.
Benefits for Jefferson Parish
Jefferson Parish officials express pride in endorsing the FastSites investment for rail capacity growth at AGG, suggesting that this initiative strengthens the region's transportation and freight network. Councilman Deano Bonano remarked, "This project is crucial for attracting new businesses and creating high-quality jobs for residents, helping solidify our parish’s prominence as a global trade gateway."
Moreover, Jerry Bologna, President and CEO of JEDCO, emphasized AGG’s role as a significant asset for the region, stating, "We support the ongoing improvements in rail infrastructure as part of the FastSites program, which will enhance the competitiveness of the site and drive new private investments and job creation in Jefferson Parish."
As the Gulf's most rapidly growing industrial hub and an essential component of Louisiana's industrial landscape, AGG’s roster of diverse tenants showcases a calculated strategy aimed at cultivating a robust and resilient economic engine. This strategy has been propelled by record volumes in breakbulk handling, swift job creation, and enhanced multimodal connectivity.
The Future of Avondale Global Gateway
Adam Anderson encapsulated AGG's transformation, stating, "This advancement illustrates that when infrastructure is primed, investments inevitably flow. The success lies in the quality and variety of businesses that have chosen Avondale as their base. This FastSites investment acts as a testament to the infrastructure catching pace with the mounting demand."
Engaging with state leaders, including Governor Jeff Landry and various legislative figures, AGG is realizing its vision through collaborative partnerships that drive the initiative from concept to fruition.
