Victim of Texas Natural Gas Explosion Sues Atmos Energy
In a startling incident that shook the community of Anson, Texas, Eric Bailey, a technician, was critically injured due to a natural gas explosion on April 11, 2025. The explosion occurred after Atmos Energy, a natural gas provider, reportedly left a leaking pipe during a service termination, causing the blast that almost claimed Bailey's life. After the explosion, he was left with severe burns, permanent disfigurement, and lifelong injuries that require ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.
The Incident
On the ill-fated day, Eric Bailey was conducting regular propane installation work in the basement of a residence when disaster struck. An explosion engulfed him in flames, resulting in catastrophic injuries. Derek Potts, the attorney representing the Baileys, stated, "Eric Bailey's life has been irretrievably transformed due to Atmos Energy's failure to adhere to basic safety protocols concerning hazardous natural gas lines. This tragedy could have easily been avoided. Our client is now facing dire consequences regarding his health, livelihood, and overall future."
Details of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed by Potts Law Firm, accuses Atmos Energy of negligence and gross negligence, noting that technicians had been on-site just days before the explosion to address issues with the gas meter. Although they identified problems and temporarily shut off the gas, following the homeowner's request for service termination, they neglected to safely secure the lines. Instead of properly handling the situation, a leaking saddle clamp was left in place, allowing natural gas to accumulate within the house, leading to the explosion.
The lawsuit seeks damages for extensive medical costs, pain and suffering, lost wages, and the existing physical and mental toll the incident has had on Bailey and his family. Furthermore, Bailey's wife, Christie, filed a separate claim for loss of consortium, citing the profound impact the incident has had on their marital relationship.
Holding Atmos Energy Accountable
As the case unfolds, the Baileys are adamant about holding Atmos Energy accountable for their actions. Derek Potts emphasized the dangers posed by corporate negligence, saying, "When companies take shortcuts regarding something as fundamentally dangerous as natural gas, the repercussions can be disastrous. This lawsuit aims to ensure Eric Bailey receives the justice he deserves and to prevent similar incidents from affecting another Texas family in the future."
