Mercuria Investment Recognized as Certified Venture Capital in Shizuoka
Mercuria Investment Corporation (referred to as MIC), a principal company under Mercuria Holdings, has officially been recognized as a certified Venture Capital (VC) for the fiscal year 2024 under Shizuoka Prefecture's startup support initiative, known as the Shizuoka Fund Support Program. This recognition signifies the commitment of both MIC and Shizuoka to foster innovation and support startups within the region.
The Shizuoka Fund Support Program is designed to work alongside certified VCs to assist local startups in their fundraising efforts. Startups that receive investments from recognized VCs during the designated period can access matching grants up to 40 million yen from the prefecture, effectively enhancing their financial capabilities.
In alignment with this initiative, MIC is actively engaged in investing in venture companies aimed at resolving challenges within Japan's logistics and supply chain sectors. To facilitate this, MIC plans to establish the Mercuria Supply Chain Investment Limited Liability Partnership (MSCF) in April 2024. MSCF's unique approach not only focuses on providing financial support through investments but also emphasizes growth facilitation through collaboration between investee companies and Limited Partner (LP) investors.
So far, six investments have been executed by MSCF, one of which includes a significant equity partnership in Toyoko Co., Ltd., a company headquartered in Shizuoka Prefecture. Notably, Toyoko is set to be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Growth Market by March 2025, highlighting the successful trajectory of startups in the region supported by MIC.
With this recognition as a certified VC, MIC aims to strengthen collaborations with LP investors and local municipalities to further cultivate the innovation ecosystem within Shizuoka Prefecture. The company is dedicated to creating a vibrant environment for startups to thrive, leveraging its resources and network to drive substantial contributions to local economic development.
The Shizuoka Fund Support Program represents a strategic collaboration between the prefecture and venture capitalists, ensuring that regional startups have the necessary support to scale their operations and achieve sustainable growth. The program aims to spur innovation, create jobs, and fortify the local economy by effectively channeling resources where they are most needed.
