The Launch of the Food Industry Sustainability Survey
The Research Institute of Distribution Economics (RIDE), based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, officially kicked off a comprehensive survey focused on sustainability initiatives in the food manufacturing and retail sectors on June 2, 2026. This endeavor aims to shed light on the current state of sustainability practices across the industry and encourages widespread participation from relevant companies.
Importance of the Survey
In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for businesses to adopt sustainable practices, such as reducing food waste and considering human rights. However, the level of sustainability efforts varies significantly among companies, and comprehensive quantitative research on this topic is still limited. The primary goal of this survey is to establish a foundational resource that illuminates the status of sustainability initiatives within the food sector, ultimately contributing to future policy formation and sustainable growth across the industry.
Survey Details
The methodology for this survey will involve a web-based questionnaire targeting sustainability officers and their equivalents in food-related firms. Participating companies will receive a complimentary report summarizing the survey's findings, which will include insights about their position relative to the industry and analyses derived from the overall data collected.
In essence, this initiative strives to raise awareness, garner participation, and ultimately promote sustainability across the food industry in Japan.
Key Dates and Participation Criteria
- - Survey Period: June 2, 2025, to July 31, 2025.
- - Target Group: Companies engaged in food manufacturing and retail operations within Japan.
Eligible respondents are sustainability heads or individuals in comparable positions within their organizations. There is a guarantee that individual company responses will not be disclosed, ensuring confidentiality and encouraging candid participation.
Ranking and Reporting
As part of the survey, the top 30 participating companies will be recognized in a ranking format. It is essential to note that company names will only be revealed for those ranked highly who also grant their consent.
Each company that participates will receive a detailed report after the survey's conclusion. This report will provide a benchmark for how their practices align with industry trends and offer valuable insights based on the analysis of the aggregated responses.
