MGM Resorts and BetMGM's Expanded Efforts to Combat Problem Gambling

MGM Resorts International and BetMGM have recently announced a significant expansion of their collaborative efforts aimed at battling problem gambling. This initiative reinforces their commitment to support individuals and communities affected by gambling-related challenges, particularly during March, which is recognized as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM). With the backing of the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), these actions underscore the importance of responsible gaming and increased public awareness.

The partnership comprises several key initiatives designed to raise awareness and provide support for responsible gaming. One of the major components is MGM Resorts' contribution of $180,000 to the Kindbridge Research Institute. This funding is earmarked for studies that will explore the effects of sports betting on various populations, helping to develop strategies for responsible gaming practices.

Stephen Martino, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts, emphasized the importance of these studies stating, "As a global gaming and hospitality leader, we are always looking to support innovative and actionable research that can make a positive impact." He further noted that as the company expands, understanding the dynamics of gaming will be crucial in supporting sustainable community initiatives.

In addition, BetMGM plans to broaden its Kindbridge Behavioral Health referral program. This initiative will ensure that customers across all jurisdictions where BetMGM operates have seamless access to specialized mental health services. Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM, highlighted that the company's focus on responsible gaming remains paramount. She stated, "Expanding our partnership with Kindbridge ensures that essential support services are always within reach for those who need it."

To further enhance its responsible gaming strategies, MGM Resorts and BetMGM will amplify their responsible gaming promotions via their digital platforms and retail sportsbooks throughout March. Messages temporarily encouraging sports bettors to 'take a time-out' will be displayed, alongside QR codes that link to tips and resources for responsible gambling. Trained GameSense Advisors will be available at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks nationwide to assist customers in need.

GameSense is a leading responsible gaming initiative developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) that encourages transparent and proactive interactions about gambling. MGM Resorts was one of the first to adopt this program, and both BetMGM and MGM Resorts are devoted to promoting responsible gambling as a best practice.

Moreover, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are extending their community outreach efforts by partnering with students from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). This collaboration will educate law students about the significance of responsible gaming in enhancing guest experiences and ensuring the industry's long-term sustainability.

Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs at UNLV's William S. Boyd School of Law, shared insights on how this partnership has enriched students’ understanding of gaming regulations and responsible gaming practices.

The commitment from MGM Resorts also includes an additional donation of $60,000 to state councils that focus on problem gambling advocacy and prevention initiatives. Alongside these efforts, BetMGM has renewed its collaboration with EPIC Global Solutions to provide training sessions for employees, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle gambling-related issues.

Both MGM Resorts and BetMGM will continue to support comprehensive training programs centered around responsible gaming for all staff and will maintain their involvement in the American Gaming Association's public service campaign, Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™

This multi-faceted approach by MGM Resorts and BetMGM not only addresses immediate concerns surrounding problem gambling but also emphasizes a long-term commitment to fostering a responsible gaming environment. They remain focused on creating impactful solutions that protect not just their customers but also the community at large. As these initiatives unfold, they highlight the gaming industry's vital role in promoting a culture of awareness and responsibility.
