LG Unveils EXAONE Deep: A Groundbreaking AI Model

Embracing the Agentic AI Era

LG's introduction of 'EXAONE Deep' signifies a paradigm shift towards what is termed 'Agentic AI'. This advanced category of AI encompasses systems that can independently make decisions by formulating and testing hypotheses. This move towards reasoning AI is deemed vital for evolving beyond traditional knowledge-based AI systems. Notably, 'EXAONE Deep' stands out as Korea’s leading effort in this evolving space, among a select few global companies developing their own reasoning AI with foundation models.

Exceptional Performance Metrics

The 'EXAONE Deep-32B', boasting 32 billion parameters, has achieved world-class performance with remarkable efficiency, operating with only 5% of the size of its top competitors.
LG AI Research has been proactive in sharing various performance evaluations via the global AI open-source platform, Hugging Face. These evaluations demonstrate the exceptional logical reasoning skills and problem-solving capabilities of several 'EXAONE Deep' models with differing parameters.

Most impressively, the 'EXAONE Deep-32B' has exemplified its prowess in solving intricate mathematical and scientific challenges. It recorded an outstanding score of 94.5 in the mathematics component of the 2025 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), achieving top marks across all elective subjects, including probability and statistics, calculus, and geometry. Furthermore, it scored 95.7 points in MATH-500, a standard measuring mathematical problem-solving ability. Additionally, the model excelled in assessments focused on doctoral-level scientific reasoning across disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and biology.

The quality of 'EXAONE Deep-32B' has also been recognized through accolades, including its listing in the 'Notable AI Models' by AI research organization Epoch AI, further solidifying LG's technological competitiveness.

Advanced Compact Models

In efforts to enhance accessibility and practical applications, LG AI Research has also introduced supplementary models: the lightweight 'EXAONE Deep-7.8B' and the on-device model 'EXAONE Deep-2.4B'. The lighter version retains approximately 95% of the performance metrics of its larger counterpart, while being only 24% of the original size. Similarly, the on-device model is capable of delivering 86% of the performance of the 32B model yet is a mere 7.5% of its size. This balance of size efficiency and performance allows for broader applications without compromising on capability.

The emphasis on maintaining data security and privacy is particularly relevant with the on-device model, which processes data internally, negating the reliance on external servers—a significant consideration in today's digital landscape.
