Tamarack Resort Expands Snowmaking Capabilities

Tamarack Resort, known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities, is undertaking a substantial investment in snowmaking infrastructure, poised to transform the guest experience during the winter season. As the resort prepares for the 2026-27 winter season, it plans to invest a seven-figure sum into modernizing and expanding its snowmaking equipment. This upgrade is set to include cutting-edge automated snowguns, which will not only improve the quantity but also the quality of snow across the ski area.

The need for better snow coverage has become imperative, especially considering the unpredictable weather patterns. With the addition of advanced TechnoAlpin automated snowguns, Tamarack aims to maximize the efficiency of its snow production efforts. These new machines enable the team to start snowmaking as soon as the conditions are ideal, eliminating previous delays caused by manual setups. The focus will be specifically on popular runs, including Waltz and Serenity, which are crucial for beginner and intermediate skiers.

Tamarack’s Chief Operating Officer, Kara Finley, emphasized the resort's commitment to providing visitors with the longest possible winter season. By installing the TT10 tower-mounted fan guns, the resort anticipates covering over 20% more of its existing terrain with snowmaking capabilities. This enhancement allows for consistent and reliable snow conditions, which are vital for attracting winter sports enthusiasts from around the region.

One of the biggest challenges surrounding snowmaking, especially in early winter stages, is capitalizing on short-lived cold spells. Historically, Tamarack experiences around 200 hours of snowmaking temperatures before Thanksgiving. The newly developed automated system addresses this by allowing snow to be created during those fleeting cold windows without the need for extensive manual labor. This flexibility represents a significant leap forward in the resort’s operational capabilities, as explained by Tamarack’s President, Scott Turlington.

Beyond just snowguns, the expansion project encompasses a range of essential infrastructure updates. This includes the installation of approximately 1,515 feet of durable water pipelines and 1,600 feet of electrical cabling, in addition to numerous hydrants and reinforced pits. These upgrades, supported by TechnoAlpin technicians, will ensure seamless operation and maintenance of the snowmaking system, contributing to a more enjoyable skiing experience.
