Experience the Nature at THE BOTANICAL RESORT 林音
Japan is on the brink of a remarkable tourism experience with the imminent opening of its first stayable botanical garden,
THE BOTANICAL RESORT 林音. Set to debut in November 2025, this unique project transforms the well-loved Ibaraki Prefectural Botanical Garden and Ibaraki Prefectural Forest into an immersive stay-at-the-garden experience, merging
glamping, serene hot bath facilities, and exquisite nature walking trails.
A Vision for Nature Lovers
In a collaboration facilitated by
Japan Asset Management Corporation (Jam), local architectural firms
Shiba Architectural Design Office and
Ohyama Urban Architectural Design will spearhead the revitalization project. Their design aims to preserve the natural landscape while providing modern accommodations that allow visitors to connect with the environment.
The concept revolves around three core elements:
stay,
interaction with nature, and
education. This new botanical garden experience promises to go beyond traditional visit lengths, enabling guests to observe flora at nighttime, inhale crisp morning air, and relish in the vivid colors of twilight in a fully illuminated garden.
Five Senses of Nature
In addition to the luxurious glamping site, the new facilities will include wooden bathing areas constructed from local timber, offering a tranquil environment immersed in nature. Guests can dine at a restaurant that prioritizes local ingredients, alongside curated souvenir shops that showcase unique Ibaraki products. All of these elements promote a newfound appreciation for the natural surroundings through sensory experiences.
Eco-Friendly Design
The architectural layout is finely tuned to harmonize with the existing rare species of trees and plants within the garden. Buildings will be strategically placed to provide a seamless blend with the environment, ensuring structures are no taller than surrounding greenery. With minimal artificial presence, the focus remains on cultivating a serene atmosphere bolstered by the natural beauty of the garden. Each aspect of the project aims to cater to the diverse needs of both day-trippers and those seeking a longer retreat.
Engaging the Community and Beyond
The reimagining of the garden seeks to attract not only traditional botanical enthusiasts but also families from metropolitan areas and local residents, solidifying the site as a preferred destination. Collaborative efforts with educational institutions will offer innovative ways to engage individuals who may have been unfamiliar with botanical gardens, thus enhancing community involvement and extending tourism flows.
Future Outlook
As the opening date approaches, potential guests can look forward to comprehensive information through the pre-launch website
THE BOTANICAL RESORT 林音 and via their forthcoming official social media channels. Here, enthusiastic visitors can learn more about the unique offerings and job opportunities, further promoting local economy engagement.
The blend of hospitality, education, and appreciation for nature presents a novel attraction in Japan, promising to resonate with visitors of all ages. With the overarching goal of contributing to the revitalization of Ibaraki as a regional tourism stronghold,
THE BOTANICAL RESORT 林音 is set to be more than a stay; it is a pathway to connect deeply with the beauty of the natural world.
