Among its notable visitors is Renato de Almeida Freitas Junior, a Brazilian lawyer and political figure, who was warmly welcomed by a young local, Yu Shuya, adorned in his Brazil jersey. This touching meeting showcases the hospitality that Hangzhou residents are renowned for, much like their Brazilian counterparts.

The relationship between Hangzhou and Curitiba, Brazil, has blossomed since it was established in 2001, and Freitas is optimistic that football can forge even closer ties between these two dynamic cities. As of July 2025, Hangzhou proudly maintains 31 sister-city affiliations and engages with 46 friendship cities across five continents. A recent dialogue with Neil Charles Clarke, the CEO of the Ireland China Culture and Education Center, sparked innovative discussions on educational reforms in the digital age, weaving a new chapter in educational relationships between Hangzhou and Cork, Ireland.

The strong ties extend beyond education and sports. In April 2025, a memorandum of friendly cooperation was signed between Hangzhou and Niš, Serbia, facilitating further exchange. During HZICC’s visit to Serbia, the warmth of the relationship was palpable as locals reminisced about their connections to China, including a curator from the Red Star Belgrade museum and a passionate lotus enthusiast.

Looking ahead, the 10th anniversary of friendship with Istanbul is also garnering attention. HZICC is reaching out to Turkish archaeologists and historians to delve into Hangzhou's rich cultural heritage, including its ties to Liangzhu Civilization—a project exemplified by the creation of a commemorative pottery carving inspired by Göbekli Tepe.
