Compal Electronics Expands into Japan with New Office for Automotive Sensing Technology

Compal Electronics Expands into Japan

Recently, Compal Electronics, Inc., a leading global electronics manufacturer based in Taiwan, has announced the establishment of its new office in Tokyo, specifically designed to enhance its automotive infrared sensing technology for the Japanese market. This strategic move aims at strengthening relationships with domestic OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and Level 4 autonomous driving service companies within Japan.

The Tokyo office will serve as a vital hub for regional expansion of Compal's infrared sensing technology, offering tailored sales and technical support focused on the unique demands of the Japanese market. The company is committed to contributing toward the realization of a sustainable mobility society, emphasizing the importance of safety through innovative technologies.

Pioneering Safety with Advanced Sensing Technology

Compal's Automotive Electronics Products (AEP) division is actively engaged in the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that integrate their proprietary infrared sensors with AI algorithms. The Infrared Technology Systems (ITS) department is concentrating on creating infrared camera solutions capable of accurately detecting pedestrians and animals in low-visibility conditions, such as during nighttime or adverse weather.

With the upcoming U.S. mandate for nighttime pedestrian emergency braking regulations (FMVSS 127) set to take effect in 2029, Compal aims to prepare compliant product samples ready for shipment by the third quarter of 2025. The company is also working on high-resolution sensing solutions to expand the Operational Design Domain (ODD) for Level 4 autonomous vehicles, focusing on enhancing performance in urban and low-light environments.

Management Insights

Richard Seoane, General Manager of the ITS division, shared his enthusiasm regarding the significance of this establishment: "The Japanese automotive industry serves as a global benchmark in terms of safety and quality. Our infrared sensing technology will significantly advance pedestrian protection during high-risk times, such as at night or in poor visibility. Moreover, it is essential for widening the operational range of autonomous driving technologies. The establishment of our office in Japan marks a critical step in our global strategy, and we look forward to collaborating with Japan's advanced mobility enterprises."

Seoane further highlighted Compal's long-standing reputation in electronics manufacturing, stating, "By being able to deliver high-performance automotive sensing solutions directly and swiftly to our Japanese partners, we aim to establish stronger partnerships and provide innovative proposals that meet local needs."
