Therme Group to Create Asia's First State-of-the-Art Wellbeing Destination in Singapore
Therme Group, a prominent global entity in the development of advanced wellbeing destinations, has recently announced ambitious plans to establish Asia’s very first large-scale wellbeing destination in Singapore. The project, which is estimated to cost around S$1 billion, was awarded to Therme Group following a competitive tender hosted by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). The chosen site for this cutting-edge venture is the Marina South Coastal area, which stands poised to significantly enhance Singapore's appeal as a leading urban wellness hub.
The proposed project will unfold on a sprawling 4-hectare waterfront location adjacent to the Marina Barrage and the iconic Gardens by the Bay. Expected to attract about 2 million visitors each year at full capacity, nearly half of whom are anticipated to come from abroad, this development embodies Therme’s vision of integrating wellbeing into urban life by blending water, nature, and architecture. The initiative represents not just a considerable investment in tourism but also a strategic movement towards creating a health-driven urban infrastructure.
At the forefront of this development is a partnership with Singapore’s renowned DP Architects, known for their innovative designs, along with Therme ARC, the Group’s in-house architectural division. Together, they aim to forge an urban oasis that champions the principles of holistic wellbeing. Dr. Robert Hanea, the Founder and CEO of Therme Group, articulated the vision behind this venture, stating, "Our goal is to create a welcoming space that intertwines culture and community, offering a refuge where individuals can access wellness and connection with nature."
Reflecting on the difference this project promises, Mah Bow Tan, Chairman of Therme Group Asia, underscored the organization’s commitment to inclusivity with, "Therme Singapore will not just provide a restful retreat, but a lively community space catering to all demographics and encouraging healthy living practices alongside social bonding."
The uniqueness of Therme Singapore lies in its emphasis on providing a holistic experience for visitors rather than the conventional offerings typical of spas or wellness resorts. The destination will encapsulate Therme Group's foundational principles: Water, Nature, Sustainability, and Arts & Culture, all under one sustainable roof. Patrons will experience features like thermal pools amidst lush greenery, mesmerizing art installations, and the latest advancements in health technology, all crafted to deliver a restorative and transformative experience.
Sustainability is integral to the design, with plans to employ advanced technologies for efficient water recycling, renewable energy resources, and biophilic design principles, thereby ensuring a seamless integration of the wellbeing facility with the surrounding coastal environment, creating a picturesque green and blue oasis.
Ms. Jean Ng, Assistant Chief Executive at the Experience Development Group of the Singapore Tourism Board, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "This landmark wellness attraction not only aligns with our mission to position Singapore as a leading urban wellness destination but also promises to transform the local tourism narrative by enriching visitors’ experiences."
As Therme Group ventures into Singapore, the organization is not merely building a facility; it is setting a new industry standard for urban wellness. The company’s previous successes, such as Therme Bucharest — the first LEED Platinum-certified wellbeing destination, and Therme Erding, highlight its experience and commitment towards making wellness accessible to broader audiences.
This venture reflects a significant investment in Singapore's urban landscape and its burgeoning wellness sector. The potential for increasing visitor numbers and enhancing the local economy is immense as Therme Singapore aims to become synonymous with top-tier wellness experiences, inviting both locals and international guests to redefine what wellness means in a modern urban setting.
New developments are also in the pipeline across various global cities, including Manchester, Frankfurt, Toronto, and Dubai, showcasing Therme Group’s ambition to transform the concept of wellbeing worldwide. The Therme initiative in Singapore marks just the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful journey in creating spaces dedicated to health, wellness, and community connection.
