BKPS and Iraq's Ministry of Electricity Enter Partnership for New Energy Project
BKPS Partners with Iraq for New Power Project
In a significant move to bolster Iraq's energy infrastructure, BKPS, a subsidiary of Karpowership, has recently inked a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the General Company for Electric Energy Production. This strategic partnership aims to initiate a pivotal power generation project designed to provide much-needed electricity to sustain the energy security of the nation.
Project Overview
The new initiative will leverage Karpowership's state-of-the-art Powership technology, supplying an impressive capacity of up to 590 megawatts (MW) of electrical power. With the deployment of two of Karpowership's signature Powership vessels, this project will commence operations shortly, initially covering a contract period of 71 days. This swift engagement aims to stabilize Iraq's national grid while meeting the burgeoning energy demands of the country.
Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, the Chief Commercial Officer at Karpowership, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We are honored to partner with Iraq in advancing its energy resilience. This project marks a significant step toward bridging the electricity gap and aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver rapid, flexible, and reliable power where it is needed the most."
Deployment Strategy
The Powerships, which will be stationed at the Khor Al Zubair and Umm Qasr ports in Basra, are expected to commence operations in August 2025. These vessels are particularly notable for their multi-fuel capability, allowing them to operate on various energy sources. Each Powership is fully self-contained, equipped with all necessary operational systems onboard, ensuring a reliable and swift response to the energy crisis without the extended downtimes typical of traditional land-based electricity infrastructure.
This project is part of Karpowership's extensive global outreach, having successfully implemented floating power solutions across 16 countries on four different continents. The unique modular design and flexibility of their Powership technology position it as an ideal solution to address the pressing energy shortages experienced in nations like Iraq, thereby supporting economic growth and stability.
