Grand Tour 2026: Showcasing Creativity at CAA Graduation Events
Grand Tour 2026: Celebrating Creativity and Artistic Expression
On June 1st, the much-anticipated Grand Tour 2026 CAA Graduation Season launched in Hangzhou, expertly organized by the China Academy of Art (CAA). This remarkable event is spread across nine venues, showcasing nearly 3,000 graduation works from 2,888 graduates representing 20 academic units. The event not only highlights the artistic talents of the students but also emphasizes the importance of engaging art with the surrounding community, underpinning the core message of the graduation ceremony.
In tandem with the graduation showcase, the 2026 International Youth Art Dialogue commenced, featuring key programs such as "The Role of Art Education in the Light of Global Civilizations", a dialogue among presidents of international art academies, and an art exhibition entitled "One Art Boundless Seas". The International Youth Art Dialogue attracted deans and students from over 50 art schools worldwide, reinforcing the global nature of art discussions.
Yu Xuhong, president of the CAA, noted that this graduation season reflects a comprehensive academic profile characterized by significant breakthroughs in various fields. He advocated for art to venture beyond confined spaces, interact directly with audiences, and be assessed in realistic social contexts. The city of Hangzhou itself serves as a significant hub, contributing to the new landscape of global art.
Since its inception in 2009, the CAA has pioneered the public exhibition of graduation projects across all disciplines, setting a precedent among art institutions. This initiative expanded from the campus into the city in 2019, positioning itself as China’s most influential graduation season. The theme for this year, “Grand Tour,” encapsulates the idea of personally engaging with the world, where mountains and rivers become classrooms. Traveling extensive distances allows for a deeper understanding of historical changes and cultural landscapes.
The Grand Tour has evolved into a rite of passage for many young individuals, as they navigate history through their travels, engaging with culture through observation. The grand opening event featured a thematic performance and a fashion show, merging digital displays with physical structures. An original piece, the title song “Grand Tour,” echoed the ideals and passions of youth, complemented by the showcase of nearly 140 fashion designs.
Rooted in the spirit of the Grand Tour, the International Youth Art Dialogue intertwines teaching, creative development, research, and exhibition, creating an open platform where young artists and educators gather to contemplate the future of arts education and cross-cultural exchange. In uncertain times, the value of art lies in its capacity to guide us through change, connect hearts, and provide direction amidst turbulence.
The CAA graduation exhibition remains an accessible cultural event open to the public, manifesting the thoughts and spirit of today’s youth. Young individuals are encouraged to utilize the mountains and rivers as their stage as they embark on a grand odyssey of youth and discovery. This exhibition will run until June 21st, inviting all to explore the rich tapestry of artistry and innovation displayed by the next generation of creators.
