Exploring Biodiversity Initiatives: Join the Upcoming Online Seminar on ISO 17298

Upcoming Online Seminar on ISO 17298 and Biodiversity Strategies

Yachiyo Engineering Co., Ltd., headquartered in Taito-ku, Tokyo, will host an informative online seminar on June 11, 2026, specifically designed for sustainability officers, corporate planners, and environmental strategy leaders. This seminar will focus on the introduction of the international standard on biodiversity, ISO 17298.

As global activities have accelerated, biodiversity and ecosystem services that sustain our social and economic systems have faced significant deterioration due to rapid population growth and unsustainable production and consumption. This situation has rendered "nature-related risks" a crucial management issue for corporations, potentially affecting their business continuity.

In light of these challenges, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) launched ISO 17298 in October 2025. This international guidance standard outlines the frameworks and processes for organizations to plan and implement biodiversity activities effectively. It addresses essential components, such as defining the scope and stakeholders related to biodiversity, identifying and prioritizing dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities, as well as devising action plans tailored to local characteristics.

ISO 17298 was carefully crafted to align with widely recognized existing frameworks, such as ISO 14001, ISO 26000, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This makes it easier for organizations to integrate biodiversity initiatives into their existing management systems.

During this seminar, we will host a representative from BSI Group Japan, a third-party organization with extensive experience in international standards and compliance evaluation, to provide clear insights into the key points of ISO 17298. Participants will also learn about practical steps for implementing biodiversity strategies based on this standard. There will be a question-and-answer session, encouraging active participation.

This seminar is especially recommended for corporate representatives who are facing challenges such as:
  • - Understanding the significance of biodiversity and its prioritization related to their business
  • - Standardizing biodiversity management not just as a disclosure, but as an integral part of internal processes
  • - Gaining a correct understanding of the requirements of ISO 17298 and its implications for certification
