Introducing the National Menopause Foundation's New Free Tool for Workplaces

New Menopause in the Workplace Benchmark Tool Available

The National Menopause Foundation (NMF) has recently launched a groundbreaking tool aimed at assisting employers in creating a supportive environment for women experiencing menopause. The Menopause Workplace Benchmark Tool, offered free of charge, is designed to help organizations assess their current practices and improve their workplace policies surrounding menopause.

The genesis of this tool is rooted in a comprehensive survey conducted by NMF, which gathered insights from over 200 women, both employers and employees. This survey highlighted significant gaps in awareness and understanding regarding menopause in the workplace. Despite these gaps, there is a growing recognition that menopause should be addressed as a vital workplace issue that affects many employees.

Claire Gill, the founder and president of NMF, emphasized the urgency for organizations to act. "There are excellent tools available to initiate conversations about menopause in the workplace, but we wanted to support organizations caught between awareness and action," she stated. The survey's findings are alarming; nearly 47% of women reported that menopausal symptoms impact their work, with 13% stating they have had to quit their jobs due to these challenges.

As of August 2025, over 69 million women aged 35 and above comprise the U.S. civilian labor force, indicating the vast impact of this issue. The Menopause Workplace Benchmark Tool allows employers to evaluate their current policies across several essential categories, including:

1. Policy Governance: Understanding existing workplace laws and regulations.
2. Workplace Environment and Accommodations: Creating a supportive physical and emotional environment.
3. Health Benefits and Support Services: Offering relevant health insurance and resources.
4. Culture, Communication, and Education: Promoting awareness and open dialogue surrounding menopause.
5. Measurement and Accountability: Establishing metrics to track progress.

The initiative signifies a shift toward supporting women through a significant life transition, ultimately providing employers with a competitive advantage. By committing to a menopause-friendly workplace, organizations can enhance talent retention, worker productivity, and foster a more innovative corporate culture.

In addition to the new tool, the NMF has made a wealth of educational resources available on its website, aiming to empower women with the knowledge they need to navigate menopause effectively. For more details, employers and interested individuals can visit NMF's website.
