The Society of Actuaries (SOA) has made a significant leadership change with the appointment of Clar Rosso as its new CEO. Announced on March 25, 2026, this transition follows the retirement of long-serving CEO Greg Heidrich, marking a new era for this esteemed actuarial professional organization.

Clar Rosso: A Leader with Vision

Clar Rosso, recognized for her accomplished career in various global professional organizations, will start her new role on May 4, 2026. Rosso's extensive experience encompasses leadership positions across sectors such as cybersecurity, accounting, and education. As the former CEO of ISC2, a nonprofit focused on cybersecurity, she demonstrated her capability by growing its membership significantly—from 158,000 to nearly 700,000—in just a few short years.

Accomplishments and Innovations

Rosso's tenure at ISC2 was characterized by innovation. She fostered strong connections with government entities and regulatory bodies while also launching a new entry-level cybersecurity certification that recognized over 63,000 professionals within just 24 months. Prior to this, her leadership roles at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA CIMA) enabled her to implement transformative member learning and engagement initiatives across continents, significantly growing the organization's reach in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

SOA's Strategic Focus

Dave Dillon, the SOA Board President, expressed confidence in Rosso's capabilities, citing her proven track record in leading credentialing organizations and enhancing professional education. Rosso’s strategic vision for the SOA includes optimizing the candidate pipeline, growing the organization’s global presence, and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance innovation and develop new opportunities for member expertise.

A Commitment to Education and Inclusion

Rosso's journey to the helm of the SOA reflects her commitment to education and inclusion. Currently, she serves on multiple boards, focusing on expanding access to education, fostering workforce inclusion, and advancing cybersecurity initiatives. With a Master’s degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and Communications from the University of California, Davis, she also holds several certifications in cybersecurity and executive coaching. Her accolades include SC Media's Innovator of the Year and the CyberScoop 50 Cybersecurity Visionary Award.

Moving Forward

As Rosso assumes her new responsibilities, she expresses enthusiasm for the challenges ahead. "I am eager to work closely with the Board, staff, and membership as we navigate through this exciting time at the SOA," she said. She envisions a future where the interaction between global growth and rapidly evolving technologies offers new pathways for the actuarial profession.

Conclusion

The Society of Actuaries, founded in 1889, is dedicated to empowering its members to develop solutions for the financial risks of life. With over 35,000 actuaries in more than 100 countries, the SOA is poised to witness significant growth under Rosso’s leadership.
