Cognizant and Omron Join Forces to Innovate Manufacturing with IT-OT Integration

Strategic Partnership for Manufacturing Innovation

On April 8, 2025, Cognizant, headquartered in New Jersey, USA, and Omron, based in Kyoto, Japan, announced a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing the manufacturing sector through a unique one-stop solution that integrates IT and operational technology (OT). This collaboration merges Cognizant’s advanced IT capabilities with Omron’s expertise in high-quality field data collection, enabling the implementation, operation, and maintenance of end-to-end solutions in manufacturing.

The partnership is designed to promote sustainable manufacturing by enhancing labor efficiency, boosting productivity, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By leveraging Cognizant's IT solutions alongside Omron's OT products—such as sensors, controllers, servo motors, safety control devices, and robotics—the two companies aim to create agile and flexible operational excellence across various industries, including automotive, semiconductors, electronics, industrial products, life sciences, and consumer goods.

As part of this strategic initiative, Cognizant has been selected as an engineering partner for Omron’s control equipment business. This collaboration will integrate Cognizant’s IT technologies, which include cloud computing, AI, IoT, and digital twin technology, with Omron’s offerings to support data-driven decision-making that enhances manufacturing processes.

Cognizant’s CEO, Ravi Kumar, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “Customers are seeking strategic partners with deep industry knowledge, end-to-end technological expertise, and the ability to handle complex technologies across various levels of a digital factory. Through our collaboration with Omron, we are excited to contribute to manufacturing innovation for global clients.”

Both companies are committed to addressing operational challenges by establishing a unique business model that focuses on continuous IT-OT analysis and improvement. This initiative targets the creation of a sustainable future for manufacturing, where both productivity and labor efficiency are elevated while also reducing environmental impact.

One of the key components of this partnership is the collection of high-quality field data from Omron’s extensive product lineup, which boasts over 200,000 items. This data will be analyzed and utilized through Cognizant’s Asset Performance Excellence (APEx) application platform and the maturity assessment tool, OnePlantTM. By combining data with management information, the partnership aims to support problem identification at the IT level and prioritize solutions from a business perspective.

Omron’s CEO, Junji Tsujinaga, noted, “As the only control equipment manufacturer with all the devices used on manufacturing lines, we see this partnership with Cognizant as pivotal. It will enable us to drive substantial productivity improvements, reduce operational losses, and expedite management decision-making.”

The strategic alliance between these two industry giants aims to enhance the manufacturing landscape through innovative technologies that integrate IT and OT systems, leading to a connected, intelligent, autonomous, and resilient manufacturing future.
