Vibrant Textiles at Barneys New York
Starting September 19, 2025, Barneys New York’s Ginza flagship store will unveil an exciting new pop-up area named "UNION SQUARE." This limited-time event features a special pop-up store in collaboration with "coconogacco" that runs through October 8, 2025. The initiative will showcase several remarkable brands that have gained international acclaim. The first week will spotlight the stunning works of
WATARU TOMINAGA, recognized for its vibrant color palette and unique textile designs.
Meet WATARU TOMINAGA
WATARU TOMINAGA is the brainchild of designer Wataru Tominaga, who skillfully combines hand-drawn elements and photo collages to create dynamic and playful textiles. His work transcends traditional fashion boundaries, echoing the spirit of pop art through bold visual expressions. By reconstructing visual culture from various eras, Tominaga delivers a gender-neutral, liberating collection emblematic of freedom in fashion.
Tominaga's background is equally intriguing. He honed his skills in painting, sculpture, textile, and fashion design in Japan, the UK, and Finland. After gaining invaluable experience working under renowned designers like John Galliano and Eddie Peake, he won the top prize at the prestigious Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography in 2016. He has collaborated with noted brands such as
CHANEL and was invited as an artist to Paris's Palais de Tokyo, demonstrating his broad artistic reach.
