On October 11, 2025, the renowned drone show company, Red Cliff, will be hosting a special event at Wakura Onsen in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This drone show, aptly named the "Wakura Onsen Recovery Drone Show," is designed to commemorate the recovery efforts following the devastating Noto Peninsula Earthquake that struck on January 1, 2024. Coinciding with the largest Yosakoi festival in Ishikawa, this event represents a community-led initiative focused on revitalizing the region after the natural disaster.
The Noto Peninsula Earthquake brought significant challenges to Wakura Onsen, famous for its 1200-year history as a hot springs destination. Many facilities in the area are still struggling to recover, leaving the entire community facing hardships. In response, the residents have collaborated on the "Wakura Onsen Creative Recovery Plan," which emphasizes the concept of "revitalizing the rich landscapes of Noto's Satoyama and Satoumi" and aims to reinvigorate the hot spring town.
Red Cliff’s drone show will be launched from "Yunotani," the source of the hot spring waters, and will feature an impressive display of 500 drones. These drones will create a stunning visual representation in the night sky, embodying the community's strong desire to ignite the "light of recovery." By using cutting-edge technology, Red Cliff will illustrate this collective hope through the drone performance, combining elements of local culture and the aspiration for renewal.
The drone show will draw on themes from various prominent local festivals, including the "Noto Yosakoi Festival," "Aoshi Festival," and "Ishizaki Lantern Festival." Audiences will be treated to a vibrant display of colors illuminating the night sky, showcasing a vision of the future where the community thrives once more. The event's artistic direction is led by the acclaimed KUDO Shin-ichi, who aims to communicate the rich traditions of Noto and the hopeful spirit of its residents through this unique performance. He expressed his heartfelt wishes:
"I have poured my thoughts for recovery into this show. I hope that this drone performance inspired by the lively Noto Yosakoi Festival and the historic Aoishi and Ishizaki lantern festivals will act as a beacon of hope for everyone."
