In a groundbreaking move to champion community-driven governance, Taiko, a leading layer-2 solution on Ethereum, has collaborated with DoraHacks, a renowned global hackathon organizer, to execute the largest anonymous community voting initiative to date. This voluntary voting effort aims to promote decentralized decision-making, allowing participants to engage in a fair and transparent manner.

The Taiko Grant Factory hackathon serves as a platform for innovative thinkers and creators, inviting them to conceptualize projects that contribute to social impact, enhance usability, or deliver engaging applications. Following months of diligent work and collaboration, the finalists from this initiative are now poised for a pivotal voting round, signalling a monumental shift towards community-oriented governance.

Owing its roots to the advocacy of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, the Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI) framework is at the heart of this voting process. Buterin has persistently raised concerns over the pitfalls of traditional voting mechanisms—issues like fraud, collusion, and compromised privacy. His solution? Implementing a voting structure that utilizes blockchain technology to create a secure, private, and fraud-resistant environment.

Through the MACI framework, Taiko employs zero-knowledge technology to uphold the confidentiality of votes while ensuring their integrity. This voting mechanism involves two key roles: operators and users. Users will cast their votes on-chain, sending encrypted selections to the MACI smart contract. These votes are not only securely timestamped on-chain but are kept visible only to the designated operator, who will later disclose the results once the voting concludes.
