Wilmington Trust Elevates Leadership Team

Wilmington Trust, a prominent name in wealth management and institutional trust services, has made significant strides in its leadership structure by appointing two executives to key roles. The promotions of Frank Sutton to Chief Fiduciary Officer and Marguerite Weese to Chief Wealth Strategist underscore the firm’s commitment to enhancing its service capabilities while growing its planning and trust divisions.

New Roles and Responsibilities

These transitions, which took effect immediately, signify a strategic effort to bolster Wilmington Trust's leadership team under the guidance of Jennifer Warren, head of Wilmington Trust. Both Sutton and Weese report directly to Donald DiCarlo, who manages the firm's planning and trust business operations.

Frank Sutton’s new position as Chief Fiduciary Officer involves overseeing the trust administration, which includes tax, unique assets, and estate settlement teams. His focus will be on integrating these trust teams into local markets, ensuring that they align effectively with planning professionals to stimulate growth in both the trust and estate sectors. Sutton comes with a wealth of experience, having previously supervised a team of trust officers at Wilmington Trust. His background also includes distinguished roles at JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch Trust Co., and U.S. Trust Co., along with a solid legal foundation as a trusts and estates attorney in New Jersey and New York. Academically, he holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School and an LL.M. in taxation from NYU, complemented by a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.

On the other hand, Marguerite Weese's role as Chief Wealth Strategist involves coordinating the firm’s wealth strategists aimed at driving revenue and enhancing the Wilmington Trust brand through insightful thought leadership. She previously served as the COO of Wilmington Trust Emerald Family Office Advisory, where she played a crucial role in formulating and executing complex financial, estate, and succession plans for clients. Additionally, Weese was instrumental in personal wealth planning strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families in her past endeavors. With a J.D. and LL.M. in taxation from Villanova University, along with bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland, she has been recognized in the industry, notably making the American Bankers Association's 40 Under 40 list in Wealth Management, Class of 2021. Furthermore, Weese contributes to academia as an adjunct professor at Drexel University and has actively participated in the Philadelphia Bar Association's Probate and Trust Section.

Wilmington Trust's Vision

With these new appointments, Wilmington Trust aims to leverage the extensive industry knowledge and expertise of its leadership team to deliver high-quality service and insights expected by its clients. Jennifer Warren expressed anticipation regarding the contributions of Sutton and Weese, emphasizing their capabilities in providing excellent service to customers, further solidifying Wilmington Trust’s reputation in the competitive landscape of wealth management.

The firm operates under the umbrella of MT Bank Corp. (MTB-NYSE), which brings an extensive portfolio of wealth advisory services designed to cater to high-net-worth individuals and families. Wilmington Trust also provides corporate and institutional services, including trust, agency, and administrative services worldwide.

As Wilmington Trust continues to grow its influence, these leadership changes reflect its ongoing commitment to enriching client relationships and ensuring a seamless integration of services within the wealth management framework.
