On September 14, 2026, Global Battery Materials Corp. (GBM) announced an exciting collaboration with South Korea's LiBEST, a leading battery technology firm. This partnership is set to impact the supply of critical battery materials such as natural graphite and coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG) by ensuring that these materials are procured and processed entirely outside of China. The recent non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) forms the foundation for evaluating and potential future commercial supply arrangements. Eric Miller, CEO of GBM, emphasized the significance of LiBEST as a collaborative partner due to its expertise in designing high-performance batteries. According to Miller, “LiBEST is a frontier battery technology company with a proven ability to mass-produce high-performance batteries. They are an ideal partner as we scale our graphite anode materials business.” This collaboration not only focuses on the shared expertise but also the urgency of creating a dependable anode material supply chain outside China, as the lithium-ion battery market increasingly requires non-Chinese options.

Under the framework established by this LOI, LiBEST will evaluate GBM's graphite and anode materials while simultaneously working to fulfill U.S. Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) requirements. This collaboration is anchored by a previously established Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations, which outlined plans for battery material testing, product development, and participation in government programs. This multi-faceted approach aims to secure resilient and high-quality battery materials for both companies, further strengthening their positions in the market.

The partnership boasts operational synergies with both LiBEST and GBM having proximate research, development, and pilot operations in South Korea. Such proximity is expected to enhance technical communication and expedite the evaluation of material development processes.

LiBEST's CEO, Dr. Joo-Seong (Elon) Kim, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of a reliable ex-China supply of graphite and anode materials. He stated, “Our customers have high standards for battery safety and performance, and securing a reliable supply of ex-China graphite and anode materials is increasingly important.” This collaboration will facilitate the evaluation of GBM’s materials for utilization in high-performance battery applications, thereby augmenting the North American supply chain.

Furthermore, GBM is actively promoting its mine-to-market strategy by advancing the Kearney Mine in Ontario, thus vertically integrating mineral mining and anode processing. Their commitment encompasses recent milestones, including a positive Preliminary Economic Assessment and collaborations with five First Nations for responsible development initiatives. As GBM continues its pilot projects and actively invests in R&D efforts in South Korea, it is well-positioned to meet the rigorous demands of advanced battery production.
