Reju Launches Its First Research and Development Center in the USA



Reju, a leading company in textile material regeneration, has officially opened its first Research and Development (R&D) center in the United States, located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. This facility represents Reju's commitment to advancing textile recycling technologies and is set to play a significant role in the company's mission to establish sustainable solutions in the textile industry.

The newly inaugurated lab is housed within Technip Energies' Advanced Materials and Catalysis research center. By locating its facility within this existing infrastructure, Reju benefits from decades of experience and expertise in catalysis, process development, and industrial scale-up. This partnership is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of Reju's innovative recycling processes, particularly the Volcat depolymerization technology, which has the potential to break down polyester into reusable raw materials.

Transition and Expansion



The opening of this R&D center marks a strategic relocation of Reju's core research team from the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California. At this new facility, the focus will span the entire development process, from initial feasibility studies to large-scale production. The center will specifically target polyester recycling, mixed fabric solutions, and new pathways in circular chemistry, ultimately facilitating faster iterations and helping bring Reju's innovative concepts to fruition in an industrial setting.

A Commitment to Circular Economy



Gregory Breyta, Reju's Director of Research and Development, expressed his enthusiasm about joining a pioneering company focused on fabricating large-scale textile recycling infrastructure. He stated, “I am excited to be part of the team that drives the industrialization of our technology and supports the infrastructure for true post-consumer textile recycling at scale.”

The R&D center aims to validate and advance technologies that can be deployed in future Reju Regeneration Centers. This aligns with Reju's broader strategy of creating a closed-loop recycling ecosystem that transforms discarded textiles into quality products.

Alongside the new Conshohocken facility, Reju's expanding infrastructure includes the Regeneration Hub Zero, which is located in Frankfurt, Germany, as well as upcoming locations in Sittard, Netherlands; Lacq, France; and Rochester, New York, USA. Together, these facilities will form a replicable global circular infrastructure designed to convert today’s textile waste into tomorrow’s raw materials.
