The Launch of MNTI: A New Tool for Measuring Cognitive Functionality

Cognitive Function Assessment with MNTI

In a remarkable collaboration between Theoria Technologies and issue+design, a new web service named "My Ninchi-kino Type Indicator" or MNTI has been introduced. This innovative tool enables users to assess their cognitive functions through a interactive questionnaire format. By simply answering 30 questions, participants can visualize their cognitive skills across ten domains including memory, attention, execution, and sensory perception.

Background of the Collaboration

Theoria Technologies, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has aimed to create a comprehensive platform that addresses various solid solutions related to dementia. Among their endeavors, they operate a portal site called テヲトル, consolidating essential information regarding dementia, encompassing knowledge, institutional support, self-assessment methods, and more. You can explore it here: Teotol Portal Site.

Meanwhile, issue+design has been conducting a project called "Walking in the World of Dementia,” which is rooted in interviews with 100 individuals living with dementia. This initiative strives to cultivate understanding of the unique perspectives held by those experiencing cognitive decline, aiding society in breaking down the barriers of misunderstanding and bias surrounding dementia.

Both organizations have recognized the urgent need to shift the narrative surrounding dementia, from a binary perspective of having or not having it, towards a more inclusive view. The launch of MNTI is a step towards fostering a society where dementia is acknowledged and understood as a potential reality for everyone.

What is MNTI?

The MNTI tool allows users to partake in a playful yet informative journey, displaying their cognitive assessment results in the form of a “trip.” This process not only highlights the strengths and weaknesses of individual cognitive function but also presents relevant tips for daily interactions based on one’s cognitive traits. When users identify with their cognitive experiences, they find deeper insights into understanding dementia, thus reducing stigma.

Features of MNTI

MNTI can be accessed effortlessly via smartphones, tablets, or computers. Users get to take a picture of their faces, answer a straightforward questionnaire, and receive immediate results. An illustration of a traveler, generated through AI from their photo, is provided. Additionally, users can share their results on social media or save them via email.

The development of this service came under the guidance of Dr. Naoki Uchida, a dementia specialist and the director of the Tarou Clinic. His involvement ensures that MNTI is not only engaging but also reliably informative.

Expert Insights

Dr. Naoki Uchida comments, “The book ‘Walking in the World of Dementia’ helps reshape the often skewed perception of dementia to highlight the real experiences of individuals. MNTI serves as a crucial entry point for understanding one’s cognitive tendencies, emphasizing that dementia can affect anyone as a natural part of aging. This service aims to foster a deeper awareness of dementia, urging individuals to prepare for a future where they can maintain their uniqueness.”

Upcoming Event

Excitingly, MNTI will be featured at the Dementia Lecture Event occurring on September 25, 2025, at the Cultural Creation Center Sirius in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Those interested in exploring MNTI firsthand are encouraged to attend. Further details can be found at: Dementia Lecture Event.
