Hengrui Pharma Highlights Innovations in Oncology at ESMO 2026
At the prestigious 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress held in Madrid from October 23 to 27, Hengrui Pharma is set to showcase an impressive
64 research findings from its innovative oncology portfolio. This year marks the company's eleventh consecutive participation, and Hengrui will present its studies through a combination of three oral presentations, three rapid communications, 32 posters, and 26 electronic posters, covering over ten key areas in oncology.
Significant Research Findings
Among the accepted studies, significant advancements in the area of antibody-drug conjugates targeting the HER2 and HER3 receptors are highlighted, particularly in the treatment of breast and lung cancers. Notably, two independently developed conjugates,
trastuzumab rezetecan (SHR-A1811) targeting HER2 and
ruzaltatug rezetecan (SHR-A2009) targeting HER3, have been selected for presentation. These studies address critical treatment gaps for patients with breast and lung cancers.
Trastuzumab Rezetecan and its Potential
Trastuzumab rezetecan will be part of the HORIZON-Breast06 study, a randomized phase 3 trial focusing on patients with advanced breast cancer who exhibit low HER2 expression. Conducted by Binghe Xu from the Cancer Hospital at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, this research aims to explore the therapeutic potential of trastuzumab rezetecan in this specific patient population. The drug is currently being developed for over ten indications, including breast, lung, gastric, colorectal, and cervical cancers.
Ruzaltatug Rezetecan’s Advanced Research
Ruzaltatug rezetecan is the focus of another significant research initiative, with the HERON-Lung01 study being led by Professor Yi-Long Wu from the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. This trial compares ruzaltatug rezetecan with platinum-based chemotherapy in patients suffering from advanced non-small cell lung cancer with EGFR mutations who have progressed after treatment with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs). This conjugate has received regulatory acceptance from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in July 2026 for market review in China and has also benefited from the FDA's accelerated pathway in the United States.
Enhancing Clinical Value
Hengrui’s camrelizumab, a known PD-1 receptor inhibitor, will be utilized in the UNION phase 3 trial as a neoadjuvant therapy for locally advanced rectal cancer, following short-term radiotherapy. Additionally, two rapid oral presentations will discuss phase 2 results from SHR-A2102, another antibody-drug conjugate targeting nectin-4 in recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer, and HRS-4642, a mutation-specific KRAS G12D inhibitor for pancreatic cancer.
Bridging Local Innovation to Global Standards
As part of its commitment to international collaboration, Hengrui Pharma's R&D teams will engage with oncology experts and researchers at the congress. Jo Feng, COO and President of Hengrui Pharma, expressed pride in their record participation, stating, "We are eager to showcase our innovations, provide clinical evidence of significant patient benefits, and to further present the fruits of Chinese research to the global oncology community."
