After dedicating over three decades to the field of orthopaedics, Dr. William Sterett, who served as the Head Team Physician for the U.S. Women's Alpine Ski Team and made significant strides in sports medicine, has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2025. His illustrious career is marked by a commitment to excellence, compassion, and innovative practices.

Dr. Sterett's journey began with a focus on not only treating injuries but also pioneering advancements in care for female athletes. He has led the charge in integrating the latest in biological treatments, including stem cells and regenerative medicine techniques into his practice. These innovations have not only improved surgical outcomes but have also contributed to faster recovery times, allowing athletes to return to their peak performance.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sterett was involved in five Olympic Games and over a dozen U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association World Championships, where he provided invaluable medical care to top athletes. His extraordinary contributions have earned him the prestigious Leland Sosman Award for Lifetime Achievement from the USSSA in 2012, solidifying his reputation as a leader in orthopaedic sports medicine.

His impact extended beyond the field, as he has educated over 100 orthopaedic fellows and residents, authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, and holds several patents for medical devices. Dr. Sterett's role as Managing Partner at leading orthopaedic clinics and President of the Vail Valley Medical Staff has showcased his leadership ability and dedication to advancing medical standards.
