Super Hotel's 'Morning Children's Cafeteria'

In a groundbreaking initiative, Super Hotel has launched its first-ever "Morning Children's Cafeteria" at the Super Hotel Tokyo Akabane South Entrance, a project conceived by the hotel’s Innovation Committee. This significant event runs from March 20 to March 26, 2025 (except March 23), welcoming elementary and middle school students from the region to enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet.

The Vision Behind the Initiative

The idea for the "Morning Children's Cafeteria" stems from the desire to provide children who may not have a proper breakfast or feel lonely in the mornings with a warm environment that fosters joy and interaction. The concept is led by Jo Wakabayashi, the general manager of Super Hotel Tokyo Akabane South Entrance, who emphasizes the nutritional importance of breakfast and the social opportunities it offers for growing children. Unlike many children's food support programs that traditionally occur at dinner, this innovative approach leverages the hotel’s breakfast buffet setting to create a unique experience for children.

Event Details

The program, held each morning from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, accommodates five children daily, totaling 26 participants along with 10 accompanying parents throughout the event’s duration. Feedback from the kids has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing delight, stating, "It felt like we were on a trip" and "I felt energized for the day!" Positive comments have also emerged from hotel guests, appreciating the interactions between staff and children.

Wakabayashi shares, "This initiative emerged from contemplating how we can contribute to the community that surrounds us. It is inspiring to see the smiles on the children's faces."

As a reflection of the program’s impact, some logistical challenges were revealed, such as school restrictions limiting children from engaging in activities prior to attending classes. Future events will be planned with considerations for school schedules, ensuring they do not disrupt hotel operations or other guests’ experiences.

Future Plans

Encouraged by the success of the inaugural event, Super Hotel is planning to organize additional cafeterias during the summer vacation period. The aim is to continue engaging with local children while providing nourishing meals in an enjoyable environment.

Wakabayashi emphasizes the importance of balancing these community initiatives with hotel operations, stating, "We want to ensure that both guests and staff are not overwhelmed while creating a joyful experience for the children. This is a heartfelt initiative, and we’re committed to making it work."

Innovation Committee’s Role

Established in February 2024, the Innovation Committee has been at the forefront of pioneering initiatives such as the "No-Key, No Check-Out" service. Its mission is to continuously foster innovation with a focus on the future direction of Super Hotel. Led by President Ken Saku Yamamoto and involving managers from major locations, the committee holds monthly meetings to strategize using backcasting methods to envision and actualize Super Hotel's future goals through tangible projects.
